I've never really noticed the fact that all of the more "main" Vocaloids have some kind of food as their item, however, Neru has a cellphone and katana. Yeah, she's a UTAU, but she is recognized as an..official one (if that makes sense). Unless she too has a food item I'm unaware of...then I wouldn't think that having food items only is set in stone (:
