Story: Chak was only a small pup in the beginning and slowly ages as time goes on...
"Heh, I'll get you!" I was playing with my father on a dark, boring day outside of my cave. "Come on! I can't run that fast!" I got angry with my father who thought I could do anything he could. He was kind and gentle, but too strict and never let me go too far from home. He was a fighter of the pack. And he showed it.
"Son, when you get older, you'll run faster than me. You'll make a good fighter."
"I don't wanna be a fighter!" I told him. He always wanted me to be JUST like him, but I couldn't. No matter what. I am me.
Out of no where, a loud crack of thunder shot from behind the trees--it was close. Then my mother called, "Boys, get in here!" Dad and I raced to the front, he won of course.
(later that night)
"Mom, why does it rain?" I asked as we ate. My oldest sister is a hunter and she always brings home the biggest meal of all the packs.
"To give life, Chak. Water helps all creatures live. You know that."
"Yeah..." I replied disappointed. "But it makes us have to come inside and stop playing."
"You'll appreciate it some day." she assured.
I heard more thunder. It woke me up from a nice dream where there was no rain. I looked over at Dad. I was cold and wanted to snuggle up with his warm tail, but he was gone. So was Mom. I sat up straight. My siblings were in a corner snuggled with each other. I guess the thunder woke them too. I crept to the front of my cave and saw my Dad's hunting gear blowing away in the storm.
"MOM! DAD!" Before I could think, I ran out, lightning seemingly fallowed me. With every step, I saw it flash.
I came to a nearly-flooded, fast flowing river that stretched too far for me to measure. Something shone down the river bed a bit. I saw my mother, more than half drowned on the ground, still in the water but hanging on for dear life. It was her pendant that was shining. I found it in the woods and gave it to her a long time ago.
"Mom, get up..." my voice cracked like the thunder. "...where's Daddy?"
She looked back, telling me he's gone with the river. "Baby. Become what you want to be. If you don't want to be a fighter that your father, be something else. Something I couldn't. Something meaningful..."
Before I even told her I loved her, she slipped into the crushing water. "MOM! Mom, rain doesn't give life! It killed you! And where's Daddy! NOO! MOMMY!" I ran back to the cave. I was half drenched in rain and half in tears. I told my siblings what happened and everything turned out a little O.K.
(a few years later)
"Chak, food time!" My sister called to me as my brother put away his fighting gear. He was the one who wanted to be like Dad, not me. I still remember that night so vividly. I shuddered at the thought and ate dinner.
The next morning it was time for me to get a rank, or job. I had this idea in my mind since Mom told me to do what I wanted. A defender. I want to make sure no other pup has to go through the pain me and my siblings did.
Training was intense. I had to do things that I never thought existed. But I made it and eventually got my Defender rank.
(6 months later)
I was put in charge of the West side. I had to protect the tribes from outside enemies. I think I wandered a bit too far though. I was... lost. It soon became nightfall and I had to remember that crazy training. I created fire and hoped that dang rain wouldn't appear. I ate small game and berries that I found in the forest. It wasn't long before I got scared of not making it home.
(1 week later)
I couldn't find water all week. The only liquid I got was from berries. I thought death was going to take me. Then my family would suffer again. Maybe worse than before!
I saw a frog on the ground. Frogs like water... maybe he'll lead me to some.
"Hey little guy! Where's the water at? Huh?" it hoped away and I fallowed without it knowing, until it went under ground. "Grrr!" I was frustrated and today it was hot out. I went the direction the frog was leaping before it left me but no water. I felt sick and light headed and soon lost consiousness.
When I woke, feeling nearly dead, it started raining... "WATER!" I jumped up, got dizzy and sat down. I held my mouth up to the sky, wide open, to catch some water. I had to have been there forever and a day! When I felt better, I turned around and tried to head back home, still lost, obviosly.
(that afternoon)
I heard a little rustle in the bushes nearby. It wouldn't stop, so I walked over, expecting a rabbit or two. I pounced through the bush and, to my surprise, I was on my sister's back. "HI!" I said with more joy than ever. She jumped out from under me and,in half a second, we were hugging and squeezing each other to death!
"Chak, I don't know what we would do without you! We were so scared! Are you crazy?? We thought you were dead!"
I responded... "I would have been. But the rain saved me." I slowly looked up to the sky. "I think it was Mom making it rain. And Dad... no, I'm not a fighter."
"Dad would be proud of you, too." She smiled, rubbed my head and lead me home.
Oh and those 3 facts...
