What is a Khalsi?
Khalsi (Kaal-see) are horse-like dragonesque creatures that are about the size of a small horse or a large pony. They are very lightweight - due to having hollow bones - but muscular, and have hard, hoof-like webbed paws. Khalsi can communicate with each other just as any animal does, though they use telepathy at times. They can also use telepathy to communicate with humans, and do so frequently. Khalsi have retractable teeth, and their pupils contract into slits when they are angry. All Khalsi live near bodies of liquid. This may be a lake, pond, arctic sea, or even a lava pool. Khalsi have both gills and lungs, so they can breathe/live underwater or on land. There are three different types of Khalsi: Aquae, Aurae, and Nixae.
Their diet consists of most types of fish, but they tend to enjoy a snack of fresh grass, fruit, seaweed, or even chocolate at times. There have been rare cases in which Khalsi have been known to eat human flesh, but this is almost unheard of.
Most Khalsi love snow, though they tend to get chilled easily unless they are protected by winter clothing. Nixae are the exceptions to this. The different species are compatible with each other, forming inter-species herds and maybe even taking a mate from a different species. Most juvenile Khalsi tend to band together, or find herds of older Khalsi to live with. Most Khalsi are not tolerant of saddles, in fact, they despise them. If a human tries to put tack on a Khalsi, the Khalsi will most likely bite or kick the human.

Species

Aquae
Aquae are scaled Khalsi with large webbed spikes or fins. They have three gills on each side of their neck, which are slightly larger and more jagged in shape as compared to those of the other species. Common colours for Aquae include blue, teal, turquoise, green-blue, indigo, and pale blue. Uncommon colours include purple, green, brown, and pink. Rare colours include grey, yellow, red, and orange, while black and white are considered very rare colours. Heterochromia is uncommon, while multi-coloured (i.e. blue and pink blended together) eyes are rare.

Aurae
Aurae are feathered Khalsi which sometimes have feathered wings and/or long, elegant feathers starting at the top of the tail. They have four gills on each side of their neck, and their feathers are glossy and dry easily. Common colours for Aurae include pale yellow, pale orange, pale teal, pale turquoise, pale pink, pale purple, pale indigo, and pale brown. Uncommon colours include pale green, pale blue, teal, turquoise, yellow, purple, orange, pink, brown, indigo, white, and grey. Rare colours include red, blue, and green, while black is considered a very rare colour. Heterochromia is rare, while multi-coloured eyes are uncommon.

Nixae
Nixae are furry Khalsi who live in the colder regions and usually have hair of some sort (on their heads). They have five small gills on each side of their neck, and their fur is soft and repels water. Common colours for Nixae include pale blue, pale indigo, pale teal, white, pale purple, pale turquoise, grey, and any shade of brown. Uncommon colours include blue, teal, pale green, purple, turquoise, indigo, and pale pink. Rare colours include green, pink, black, yellow, red, and orange. Heterochromia and multi-coloured eyes are common.

Please only enter is you are adept with complex layering, as this file contains many different layers.
DO NOT remove my sig or the "Not a real Khalsi" sign.
THIS IS A HUGE FILE. I would advise saving often and deleting the layers you are not going to use.
The picture shown above is the base. Please do not use this layer unless you are doing line edits that are not compatible with the species layers.

THIS IS AN ONGOING COMPETITION. I reserve the right to select artists or guest artists at any point in time c:
