can anyone tell me how to do highlights and shadows when teh light is behind?

You did a pretty good job here. When the light's behind, usually only the edges of the character have highlights. The rest is kind of shadowed and the areas specifically facing away from the light are the darkest.

Hmm.. Well.... Take an apple and a lamp. Place the lamp right behind the apple and look at it face on. You'll notice how it's light around the edges, and get's darker towards the center.

that's spherical objects.

get a torch and a table and a hand (your own will do)

hold the hand above the table and have the torch shining down from above. the edges of the shadow should be darker
