Jay, (or "JJ"), the Feline Kisuna
----
As my first character, Jay served as kind of a "mascot" for me, though not as much anymore. Therefore, she just used my nickname as her name... and I couldn't bring myself to change it. She's definitely been through a whole lot of other changes. The browns were changed nearly every time I drew her, and I could never get them to look right. I think these ones work, though!
I tried my best to be concise in the species explanation, but a species page will come out soon!
(Don't mind the parents names; they're mostly character easter eggs. Translate them from Kiswahili and you'll get kind of a hint at their character, or other's perception of the character! I don't plan on drawing them, so their names are just kind of there.)

Personality + Design notes wrote:Personality + Traits: A sweet-heart & a hyper optimist. Can be a bit impulsive in her decisions, but she's always ready to fight for the vulnerable. Doesn't want you to worry! Often tends to be a bit shy with new people, due to the general distrust of her species. But is very friendly--maybe even slightly annoying or naive--when they become familiar, or when she has her brothers nearby for backup.
She enjoys hanging out and exploring with her adoptive family. She also likes carving designs into trees, collecting shiny rocks, and watching birds. Youngest of her adoptive siblings, just barely shorter and younger than Aero. Tired of being the shortest. Although Kisuna tend to be very adaptive, she cannot swim.
Design notes: Short, broad muzzle. Large, round tipped ears. X shaped scar is only on the left shoulder. Rounded paws. Not very fluffy, except around scruff. Thin & flexible body. Flesh is mostly orange, but there are unseen blue patches under her fur. Kisuna tails are actually sleek hair, length can vary. The hood can be any color of leaves, it's used to try and divert attention since Kisuna are often unwelcome in the forest.

Their appearance is caused by a designed genetic mutation. The affected mother, either feline or canine, would come into contact with an odd flower. These flowers have a strong resemblance to forget-me-nots; they are only red in dryer climates.
This virus flower, more often then not, will cause a mutation to the mother's carried offspring. This mutation was designed for canines, so the changes are very canine in appearance. Often times, Kisuna are disowned, due to either their oddity or for fear of their "destructive" nature. Currently, the animals have not made the connection of the flower and the Kisuna. (More info will be linked when a species page is complete)
Flames + Blood: Blue. Kisuna have a rather high body temperature. When under high physical of emotional stress, they may burst into flames. This helps return their temperature to normal, but the duration of the fire burst may vary.
Hottest blood/flame - White/Rainbow > Purple > Blue > Green > Yellow > Orange/Red - Coolest blood/flame

Home wrote:Planet: 4th Genesis. The fourth planet colonized by Earth dwellers. This planet is very similar to Earth, although it is much larger. After it's discovery, humans sent flora, fauna, and set up many large facilities around the planet; these are known to the fauna as "metal towers." After years of research, these towers outlived their purpose, and were seemingly abandoned.
Surely, though, humans could not have been the only inhabitants of these towers. Should one be curious enough to investigate, they may find angry "metal souls." A greater mystery lies in these dark towers, as well as a connection to the first Kisuna.
Home land: Stone Bark, a temperate disiduous forest. Named after the odd, seemingly more abundant uninhabited metal towers in the area. Finding scattered metal is also a common occurrence.
Former Home land: Leo's Bastion, a dry deciduous forest. Named after the great number of lions that inhabit this forest.

Jay's story so far wrote:Jay, daughter of Imani and Kanuni, was born as a twin to Shujaa. While Shujaa was unharmed, Jay was changed by the virus flower. Kanuni was frightened and angered by the odd cub's appearance, and insisted that she was a curse brought upon them. Imani, the stubborn Queen, insisted that the Kisuna could be a fierce force for them in battle, and a mighty knight for the new Queen Shujaa. With this caused a strong divide between them and their large, diverse community of lions. In the end, they divided the pride and had gone their separate ways. Imani now proudly proclaims herself as King, still to this very day.
As things were settled, Jay's name was then Hatari, meaning "Risk." Still as a cub, Hatari would proudly train with her mother in preparation to be Shujaa's knight. It was not meant to be. One dusk, Shujaa had wandered a great distance away from the pride. Hatari followed, but could do nothing when Shujaa was taken away by a lion in the shadows. Hatari would bring back news of the disaster, as lions went onward searching for Shujaa. However, Shujaa could not be found. Confused and angry, Imani blamed it on Hatari's "curse." Imani then marked Hatari with a X, and sent the small cub off as a doomed exile.
Hatari would travel south, clumsily dodging the attention of passing predators. She continued towards the mountains, and found a low valley-way into another forest. There, she was found by a lion called by Kohatu, and a pup and a cub were also with him. She was frozen at the sight of them, and they frozen at the sight of her. Kohatu was slightly hesitant to approach her, due to what he has heard of her kind. In the end, he decided he could not leave the grieving cub on her own, and offered their company to her. Reluctantly and fearfully, she followed close behind until she eventually warmed up to the group.
Further along, they would also find another Kisuna, who insisted that he and his mother were accidentally separated while being pursued by a group of lions. The group would travel together in search of Aero's mother, though, they never actually found her. As time went on, and they continued to explore the forest of Stone Bark, they began to acknowledge each other as family.
As for her name, Kohatu found that Hatari was no longer fitting. When she expressed interest in the loud blue jays, she was then jokingly called Jay. She protested loudly and constantly whenever she was called by that name. She thought of it as embarrassing and was sour for quite a while, but later defeatedly accepted it as her new name. It wasn't the end of the world, after all.
