If you like RPG games, why not take a peek?

Postby doktor monty » Sat Dec 23, 2017 12:13 pm

xx This is a concept I haven't seen on cs (that doesn't mean it hasn't been done before on here).
I'd like to create a D&D/RPG kind of cs adopt, human based (and maybe some animals). As stated above, you would start out with stats that you'd have to use in order to try out for adopts, and your goal is to make sure you don't hit zero, but also adopt powerful beings.

and of course, this means that this is a mature concept, so handle this idea with care :)
______________________________

These creatures are manifestations of lore, whether it be from my own mind, or from existing cultures.
They may be considered demons, spirits, ghosts, whatever you want to call them. All that matters is that these are dangerous entities that you are encountering, therefore the sacrifice of a stat when you decide to enter for their competition.
If you do not have enough of that stat to enter for a competition (ex: you need 10 sanity to enter, and you have 2, you can not enter that competition).
But, if you win that adopt, the creature is therefore bound to you in spirit, and you now own it!

______________________________

Health: Your HP, or your hit points. Depending on which class you start out with in the beginning, you can have a max of a certain amount of hp. If you are in an encounter and are hit by it, or if you suffer any kind of damage of any time, you lose some of these hit points. When you hit 0, you may sacrifice a part of your soul (aka one of the adopts you captured). if you have none, you are considered unconscious and must wait a week before jumping back into exploring.

Hunger: Basically your stamina. Reaching full hunger will heal you 5 hp for the day. You can fill you hunger by going to taverns, buying food, or consuming drops from the creatures. If you hit 0, your hp will drop by 1 every day until you eat something.

Sanity: Your mental state. Certain choices/encounters you make can have effects on your sanity (ex: being around a creepy monster). At 0 sanity you are easier to be hit during encounters, and your decisions may be changed without your permission (you are essentially going crazy).

You can increase your base stats by buying items from shops, or getting drops from bosses or from your adopts (sometime they give you gifts :) ).

______________________________

Items you either find or trade for can be sold and you can buy items, tavern and inn places, or you can buy help from npcs to increase your chance in winning over a creature/winning a battle/fighting another player
(I may not make a pvp option, but who knows).

PLEASE ASK ME QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS CONCEPT, I NEED TO PERFECT THIS IF YOU WANT TO SEE THIS HAPPEN!

      mark ! this is interesting

so its like ,,, a game ? so we have to enter, and the characters have default stats - we would have to use these stats to make an entry for said adopt.

we, ourselves, have our own stats too, and we might need to trade them in for adopts? and we can gather more stats by buying them/drops from bosses/from the adopts

im assuming theres going to be some sort of currency to go with this? with the way you worded the intro it sounds sorta like a medieval sort of thing

xxit is like a game, and the adopts wouldn't have any stats, only the players would have them. You'd expend your own to enter for an adopt, like a ticket.
the currency would just be gold/silver/copper coin, so it would be in the realm of medieval, but who knows, it may have cameos of different time periods!
but you understood it quite well, I'm glad I want too confusing :)

this is pretty awesome!! i remember trying to help make adopts with item collecting etc, a couple of years ago, but we dropped the project since we didn't want to do any coding rip

there are a few things that i'm a lil confused about though, in terms of the adopts themselves
But, if you win that adopt, the creature is therefore bound to you in spirit, and you now own it!

When you hit 0, you may sacrifice a part of your soul (aka one of the adopts you captured).

would the adopts be taken away, if you lost health? I personally wouldn't be happy with that, since I would have worked hard for the character, and would also draw them as well ;;
is there a limit to the amount of adopts that you own? (maybe having more than 2-3 would make you have worse morals?)

Also, how would the whole fights and taverns/inns/etc work; would it be like a video game? (The best thing that I can think of is Aywas, this pet site, where you can go adventuring and battle to win pets) I think that it would be pretty hard to keep individual track of each person's stats, even if there was one person in charge of keeping track of things.
you could probably make a data-entering machine, where the person would fill out a simple form if they wanted to buy an item, and it would transfer to a google spreadsheet or something?
- I actually just whipped up a super quick example of the form here: https://goo.gl/forms/KAQQQaog0J0nCEsq2
and it automatically logs your answers into a spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

xx touching on the topic of losing the adopt, I may take that away, as I was also a little cautious about people being mad. but of course this is a draft, and the good thing is that it can be changed! so thank you for the input, I'll make sure to change that up. (if you've got any personally amazing ideas, feel free)

and secondly, thank you so much! that's really helpful, and you can certainly help me make this game if you're so inclined, you seem to be passionate about this type of stuff. pm me if you'd like to discuss more <3

^^im assuming the buying things etc. would be in a different thread ? like kalons, they have a trade thread and a archive thread n that stuff - they have forms for different things too

if you need help w/ coding hmu! im decent at coding threads ^^

xx yes, maybe on a weebly site, etc. (or just another thread if I'm lazy)
thank you as well! I will definitely do that once I get some basics down and post the adopt thread

oooohhh boy this sounds like a really interesting and unique idea! I would definitely be interested in participating, if they were ever to become reality!!

it does sound like a lot of work for one person to run alone, though, or at least a lot of planning and wait time for things to be created. I think it might be beneficial for any archives to be kept by the users/winners themselves (and checked by appropriate game hosts/staff), that way the majority of the work staff has to do can be focused on actually running the game part and not so much the upkeep. milksharks' spreadsheet idea is also good but i'm not really sure how you could prevent people from tampering with other people's stuff or how that could be used without putting a lot of trust in the community or if it's capable of fool-proofing at all

on the potentiality of losing an adopt on reaching 0 health (dying basically), maybe there could be some sort of like... saving grace? a second chance of sorts before you actually have to give one up. for this case, it might be beneficial to give users a one-time second chance or at least the ability to earn that? like a phoenix feather or something that people have to complete some sort of quest or promise to obtain a single one of and they can only ever earn one.

I've been playing Final Fantasy Legend II recently and there's a concept that might be helpful for planning or brainstorming. In FFLII if your party is slain (all playable characters die), you go to Odin and he revives you, but only on the promise that you'll fight him when you become stronger if he revives you in battle. there's no other real penalty or obligation, but it's helped me escape many a battle I probably should have fled from.

The spreadsheet should be set to view-only (unless I forgot to set it to that. I tested the form myself, and there isn't any way to access the spreadsheet from the form) Basically, it just collects the data from the form itself; it isn't something that a random user can write on.
