Oh, I should have told you that on the grass, I started with 2 layers of color, 1 choice green and then a lower greyer bluer green back further, smudged a little bit of a grassy line and then merged them. Then I blended them together with the blender tool, then dodged and burned and used smudge to get the grassy affect. I do burn, dodge, burn in 3 little rows and smudge between all 3 rows of burn, dodge burn... it's what gives the grass depth.

The last layer I used called "etc" has details like the water highlights and a little bits of grass over the water, that kind of thing that give it dimension. Make sure to smudge it in so it blends. Then after I've gotten the bg the way I like it, I add the main characters.

I will go look at your gallery and see if I can find any tips for you.One thing to remember is that when looking "at" water, you have to remember the other side has a bank/shore you can usually see. It is darker and it makes the grasses grow "out" of the shore, not out of the water usually. On the near side, the grasses will go over the top of the water and except rarely, you wouldn't be able to see much of the shore. Of course you can make a sandy or rocky near side shore, but the grasses would come up and the shore would stick out from under the grasses.
