For me, redlining is basically my main shape. I then go over it using black pen and edit out some mistakes in the redline, for example the placing of a paw or the disproportion of the ears.

This is stage one of my process, redlining

Suffering serious art block D: So many apologies if you have a pending commission! I'm trying to get over it as quickly as I can, but my brain is in a writing mood.
