Basically, both cats belong to SnowClan. Sweetpaw has started to develop feelings for Hawkclaw, a warrior in her Clan. When out on a hunting patrol, a fox tried to get into camp. Both Sweetpaw and Hawkclaw fought it off, but Sweetpaw ended up with a wound on her right hind leg. After getting it treated, Silverstar decided that she was going to lead out a fox patrol, and when Hawkclaw and Sweetpaw reasoned, saying that there was no milk scent nor any other fox scents of the beast, she disagree, and lead it out anyway. Hawkclaw exiled himself and Sweetpaw ran after him after also exiling herself.
