Fire...
Flames blinded his eyes, making it hard to see what was going on. All he knew that there was a fire, and there was no time to lose.
"Quick, over here!" A voice whispered to him, low but strong. He forced his eyes open, choking heavily on the deathly smoke. A small, yellow animal flittered across his path, bright as the sun on a sunny day. The animal didn't seem to be affected by the fire or even the smoke, and glided freefully through the flames.
Who... are you?
"Hurry up!" The yellow animal looked back, making sure that he had caught up. It was awfully hard to see where he was going, thank gosh that the animal was bright as the stars. He stopped a second to cough, but that only seemed to make his body feel worse. The animal was a little impaitent by this time, and didn't stop to wait for him. "The fire is going to catch up! Don't stop! Quick!"
What do you mean... The fire.. Is going to catch up?
He made himself run, stretching his legs farther than he had ever in his life. He ran, for his life, following the mysterious yellow animal. He didn't care if this was the right way or not, because he didn't have any time to choose.
It seemed like decades before he finally breathed in fresh, clean air. It was actually, only a few seconds time that he had ran through the house, only catching glances of the yellow animal at turns or behind objects. Although he could sense the animal, forever in front of him but never leaving him beind.
Wait. Where is the animal now?
He stood up suddenly, the thought had hit him like a whip. But, his feet seemed like that they couldn't bear the weight of his body, and collapsed almost immediately. There was no use in trying to sniff it out; he hadn't caught a trace of that animal's scent--there was too much smoke choking on him back there. And, come to think of it, he didn't see the animal quite clearly. All he could remember was a blurry bundle of bright yellow. The flames seemed to engulf it, but the animal was never bothered by the things threatening to burn him.
Maybe, some things are better to be left to burn... Memories in ashes that will never be found again...
