Otodontidae

Postby Pets For Days » Sat Jun 01, 2019 3:17 am

The famous massive prehistoric shark has been one of my most favs, even the rumors of it. However
The Megalodon was literally the biggest shark to ever exist, even it's ancestors: otodus obliquus ( Who was actually the smallest of the Mega toothed Sharks, who lived I believe nearly 20 million years before Megalodon appeared in the world) and The Charcharocles, scientists are probably still trying to figure out which genus does the Megalodon belong into as the genus offspring, but to me it sounds like both genus sharks could've brought up our famous beloved Megatooth.

Otodontidae Means "Megatoothed sharks" so I am sorry but those who believe or think Megalodon belonged to the great white family of Lamniformes are, however wrong when you think about it. (If you still think Lamniformes is the Megalodong family I wont stop you)

Megalodon despite it's ancestor sizes, was still the biggest of them all, now we are all popular and mostly known with the small Megalodon who was 3 times bigger than the famous Historical reptile: The Tyranosaurus Rex.
Now if that's already massive imagine the Big Megalodon given how it is WAY BIGGER than the small Megalodon.
The Megalodon was the fastest growing Shark we know. And While that Eventually Might've become a difficulty when it have to food supplies, it was still one of it's best features, and one of the most important, and I will later on explain why.
Megalodon's fast growing to it's full size within 25 years and then growing even faster was a very useful feature, until it became difficult for the Megatooth

As time passed by Megalodon had competition in life, starting with our famously known Moby Dick - the Sperm Whale who's name is Livayatan Melvilli, Massive predators who a also fed on whales or even maybe their alikes following up with Great white ancestor Carcharodon Hubelli (Not to be confused with the Charcharocles)
the Carcharodon Hubelli was a direct shark competitor to the Megalodon, as they shared the same food prefferation, it ate the same species Megalodon fed on. as it's fossils have been found int he same pray murine animal species.
now also fossils appearing of the modern great whites the Carcharodon Carcharias, now I know it sounds ridicilous just bare with me :)
With the more predator whales and more shark breeds and species, Megalodon's food supply deeply decreased, it went from 60 whale species to about 40.
as the sharks and great white families started to take over fewer food supply began making the like for the Meg increasingly difficult, and this is where size once again plays in, Being bigger was great, but when it came to competing for even harder survival, Megalodon just couldn't make it..
it started to require more food to survive which wasn't going to become an option for the beloved Mega tooth. and so 2.6 million years ago, the last Megalodon of existence disappeared due to their extinction.

And just bare with me a little more and I'll bring out the big relation of great whites what I hoped to explain and show through the color in.
The Meg had a massive impact on the ocean life, Megalodon was able to eat the bigger whales that our murine apex predators cannot do.
However The Megalodon had a tendency to eat some prey what was slightly bigger than the Meg it self, now I know you may think that's good cause the meg required in deed a ton of food to sustain itself per day.
but after the Megatooth extinction the increase of whale population increased by a ton. BUT!
our Famous Great White have the same tendency they tend to snack or just eat dolphins that are about half their size and are about a meter longer than their ancestors were in the maya scene, and they grow little faster when they're young too just Like the Mega tooth did and now I finally explain why the size was so important earlier.

The great white sharks, could potentionally be the future Megalodons, while it kind of is awesome, it would suck a little bit cause of how.. now the same to say it would be, BUT There's a change a new megalodon could once again take control of the waters.
An we can expect our great whites to become our future Megalodon sharks

Hope it was interesitng for you :3
The color in is not meant to be disturbing in anyway say, it it merely meant to represent the Mega tooth shark, and I recently rewatched the Movie The Meg and I noticed how lack of colorish the shark looked with the eyes looking almost dirty white, and I figured "you knwo what that is a perfect fit"
as for the teeth They are Mega tooth sharks! How could I now give them mega teeth :D

This Rumor I colored in might just be one of my most favorites and I am going to love developing it :D

The rumor Otodontidae © Pets For Days (me, Because this is my OC based off of my favorite prehistoric water predator)
The species and lineart belong to Scoinwolf

I don't take the credit for the facts however, I merely decided to share what I knew based off of my obssesive re-search XD
