Prompt:"Wildleaf, hurry up! You're going to miss it!"
The rabbit Wildleaf had been stalking fled as soon as it heard Brightpatch's voice. The silver she-cat desperately burst into action, but her prey was safely inside its burrow long before she caught up. Wildleaf sighed, then trotted in the direction her best friend's voice had come from.
"Miss what?" the silver she-cat asked when she found Brightpatch. The calico she-cat had been poking under a bush with her paw. She had probably found a lizard.
Brightpatch looked up, and the lizard she had been poking fled out the back of the bush. "The star shower!" the calico exclaimed. "Don't tell me you forgot... You've been looking forward to this for moons."
Wildleaf gasped, eyes widening in shock. She'd forgotten all about it! "That's tonight?!" she asked. At a nod from Brightpatch, Wildleaf began running, her friend only a tail-length behind her.
A few minutes later, the two friends arrived at their destination: a meadow near the edge of their Clan's territory. The rest of the Clan had already gathered, walking around and small-talking with their Clanmates as they waited for the star shower to begin. Everycat else seemed to have remembered, despite the shower having been predicted by the medicine cat a full moon ago. Honestly, who remembered things from a whole moon ago? It was ridiculous.
Brightpatch flicked her tail, leading Wildleaf to an open spot in the meadow next to Minnowmist's kittens. Minnowmist and her mate, Sparkstorm, were trying desperately to round up the six energetic youngsters. This was their first time out of camp; Wildleaf severely doubted they would calm down even the slightest bit.
While Wildleaf walked in a circle, flattening some of the grass down to make it more comfortable to lie on, Brightpatch padded over to the storm of crazy kitten-ness to offer help. Within moments, Wildleaf's assumption had been proven wrong, and the kittens had all sat down in a line to listen to Brightpatch tell them a story. Wildleaf finished flattening the grass, then settled down to wait for the star shower to begin.
"Wildleaf?" a small kitten voice asked. Wildleaf hesitantly looked away from the stars -- she really didn't want to miss the start of the star shower -- and found a black-and-white she-kit staring up at her.
"What is it, Whisperkit?" Wildleaf asked.
"My siblings are being annoying and loud," Whisperkit mewed, "and they're going to ruin the star shower. Could I sit with you instead?"
Wildleaf shrugged. "I don't see why not." The kitten's face lit up happily, and she quickly burrowed herself under Wildleaf's front paws. The silver she-cat chuckled slightly. Whisperkit was way better than her siblings.
Brightpatch walked back over, finished telling her story to the other kittens. She laid down next to her friend, head tilted upwards to watch the sky. The calico's eyes lit up with excitement. "It's starting!"
Wildleaf turned her gaze towards the stars, and gasped in wonder. The stars were falling! Dot of light after dot of light plummeted from its position high in the sky down towards the ground. Wildleaf smiled. She had always loved stargazing, but this was certainly something special.
Notes:- A bit forgetful when it comes to important things, though she tends to remember random, irrelevant things quite well.
- Easily tunes out cats she doesn't want to listen to.
- Really likes berries, and has accidentally poisoned herself by eating the wrong kind a few times.
- Favorite food (that actually provides her with nourishment) is rabbit.
- Has been trying to build a secret tunnel into the rabbit burrows under her Clan's territory for moons. It's never going to work, but she's determined to try.
- Doesn't like kittens that much, except for Whisperkit. Whisperkit is awesome.
- Best friends with Brightpatch.
