a skeatch
don't have to use the pose from the photo, but it gives me an idea about the shape of the dog. So from that I'd make a rough sketch

Just a quick thing, not to sound horrible not all snakes are bright green too, research into each into the individual snake is good too, in this case vipers, most can be sandy or brown in colour, I don't like saying things because I sound harsh ej
PoonDoodle
Shih tzu are more square dogs
Stocky
CricketDeerCricketDeer
yeah, like Poon says. They're boxy and stocky
so the've got thick limbs. And lots of floof!
ChampalishishChampalishish
the oc is more les fluf
CricketDeerCricketDeer
That's alright. Less fluff, but they still have that stocky build. Thicker, short legs
PoonDoodlePoonDoodle
Good tip I find is if when you draw the body instead of just straight round go up in a V shape
if that makes any sence

He looks so sads now Cricket haha

hey, you're gettin there
take a look at the shape of the face
CricketDeerCricketDeer
the muzzle isn't a perfect circle, and it has a lower jaw as well
but I think you're starting to get the stockiness that you need for a shih tzu

gettin better, for sure
my best recommendation for you is to look around at pictures of animals before you draw them.
CricketDeerCricketDeer
And it's okay to trace a photo in order to get a better idea of what anatomy looks like. As long as you aren't tracing and selling that artwork. Or saying that you are the one who drew it.
Also, I left my beer in the freezer for too long. RIP.
ChampalishishChampalishish
lol
PoonDoodlePoonDoodle
Oh goodness
I have done that with cider
OtterlysillyOtterlysilly
also, it looks like you're drawing with a mouse right?
ChampalishishChampalishish
yep
OtterlysillyOtterlysilly
if that's the case, I know it's difficult to get wide strokes
so zooming in pretty far to get more accuracy helps
