i think them being just "offer to adopt" would be best, so that way people in other timezones have a shot at them as well -- in case they might be sleeping when the prices are posted ; v ;

Agree with "offer to adopt", but I would prefer only a day or two of allowing offers. Timezones are an issue, but I personally don't think it needs to drag out for a week :P
If you're worried about low quality offers, maybe set a minimum amount to offer.
