Icarus; Practice

Postby Bayfire213 » Mon Jan 02, 2017 12:28 pm

Wanted to practice my shading to get used to my new tablet, and was too lazy to draw lines first. So, a modest bay color-in.

May or may not add tack and barding and claim him as my mount in our typical Dungeons and Dragons games... Eh, time shall tell.

This is gorgeous! I love how shiny and lifelike you made this horse's coat. Also, I recently started my first game on Dungeons and Dragons with a group of friends, and absolutely love it so far! I play 5e as a Dragonborn Fighter named Bryn. What edition do you play? Also, do you have a favorite species or class to play as?

Why thank you, I'm glad you like it~! As for favorite species, class, and the edition- I'm afraid I'm rather new to the game myself, and since we're playing with my dad and his friends, it's only about once a month that we can all get together and play. So I haven't had any true range of experience just yet. Thus far however, I've discovered that I'm a horrible druid, whom only reptiles and heavily mutated deer are friendly with. The squirrels and rabbits would of been very happy to attack me, had there not been another druid in the party. That was the first dungeon I got to play, and I'm not sure what edition number it was, however it was played out in Gamma World, if that says anything?

This second dungeon we recently started up is first edition, and I'm a half elf mage/cleric with a pseudo dragon familiar, Sora and Rum respectively. It's been much more fun to play, and I've actually managed to retain good relations with the creatures we come across, rather than send them all into a murderous rampage like last time. So, improvement! Still working on memorizing all the spells and what they do, however the mage/cleric split has been wonderful to work with, so I'm thinking that it may become my favorite. Just not a pure mage, as one of our current party members is. He's already nearly-died five times, and actually died once before being resurrected, in two mini-quests (having been the DM for three prior quests, before swapping places with my dad), and served pretty much as only a distraction for the undead we've been facing. Which is admittedly highly amusing with all the commentary being tossed around, as is everything we've faced thus far.

I don't suppose you've got any interesting tales from your games that you'd be willing to share?

Well, I play with a large group of people (9 or 10 of us), and pretty much everyone is terrible at fighting and we do not have a healer. I play as a Dragonborn Figher, so I'm ok at it, but everyone else can't really fight. Whenever we enter combat, I have to cover everyone and just hope that none of them get themselves stuck in a bad situation. There's one person in particular whose only "use" is his "divine power," but so far he's done pretty much nothing. We were fighting a very powerful chimera (our DM kept changing what species it was, so it was only a chimera for a little bit... (our DM is pretty bad at DM-ing because it's his first time). Said player then decided to throw his "divine spear" at it. He rolled a natural 20 and everyone started screaming and jumping up and down. It did one point of damage. ONE. And so, many meetings later, we ended the battle with pretty bad injuries. Also, we don't have a healer, but one of our members has a very weak healing spell that we used.

I play fifth edition, and this is my first time playing. I love it so far, but I'm 90% sure that we're playing it incorrectly... Everyone's characters hate each other and are currently plotting to kill one another, but we're all great friends outside the game. In general, we spend our entire time as we play talking and yelling over one another, but it's tons of fun!
