Palomino Practise

Postby ImmyWimmy1 » Wed Jun 15, 2016 2:00 am

Decided to use these gorgeous lines to practise my pallies on these gorgeous lines. I was gonna go with a dappled pally, but decided that, because I throw dapples in for a lot of my pallies, I needed to practise my plain ones. I think this one turned out Ok, but even with the airbrushing tool I think this one's a little flat. I added some white markings to make it a little more interesting at least! XD

Anyway, enjoy! :D <3 xxx

how did you use the line art's layers and what brushes did you use?

For a complete guide on how to use layers on Oekaki, I would look at this (hope it helps you as it helped me!): viewtopic.php?f=30&t=794080

As for the tools for this particular drawing:

> Base Coat:
- Base layer, lock alpha: used pencil tool with pale colour for base colour
- Base layer, lock alpha: used airbrush tool with two slightly darker colours, decreasing the tool size with each darker shade

> Markings:
- Copied and pasted colour layer
- Copied layer, lock alpha: coloured everything nearly-white with pencil tool
- Copied layer, remove lock alpha: carved out the shapes of the markings using various thickness of eraser
- Copied layer, still no lock alpha: traced the outline of the marking with a pen, settings changed to a lower opactiy and colour

> Skin colour:
- Base layer, lock alpha: used airbrush tool with light grey colour to shape the muzzle and eye layer
- Base layer, lock alpha: used a smaller airbrush tool with a slightly darker grey around the nostrils, mouth and edges of the eye only
- This can be repeated for the ears on the extras layer for these lines

> Eye:
- Extra layer, lock alpha: used a pencil tool to colour the whole thing brown
- Extra layer, lock alpha: used a pencil tool to create a pupil using a very dark grey-blue
- Extra layer, lock alpha: used a small burn tool around the pupil and the top of the eye (all in one go, without clicking off the mouse) to create some shading
- Extra layer, lock alpha: used a small dodge tool, with raised opacity, along the bottom of the eye to create highlights
- Extra layer, lock alpha: used a small pen tool with lowered colour and opacity to create reflections on the eye

> Hooves:
- Extra layer, lock alpha: used a pencil tool with a pale colour for the main hoof colour
- Extra layer, lock alpha: used a soft pencil tool, with only the edge of the tool touching the bottom of the hoof, with a darker colour for the bottom of the hoof

> Mane and tail:
- Mane and tail layer, lock alpha: used a pencil tool with nearly-white for the main colour of the mane and tail
- Mane and tail layer, lock alpha: used a pen tool with a slightly darker colour to create streaks in the main (the closer to the base of the mane/tail, the more concentrated the streaks)

NB- had to reduce the shading quite a lot to make the horse look a little more natural.

I hope all of this information will help you once you've read the guide. If not I could try and make a tutorial video for you? ^^; <3 xxx
