One Quirk: Jax has a thing for collecting model airplanes. He does not know where this obsession came from. He has never even rode in a plane. He thinks that the obsession is not with the plane itself, but with the wings. He likes freedom and the idea of flying appeals to him greatly.

Hi, I'm Hyenacat, a character-loving girl who probably should be asleep right now. I'd like to try out for adopt #2.

n a m e

If I win this girl, her name will be Pallas. Why Pallas, you ask? Well, earlier today I was trying to pull a name for her out of the dark abyss of my brain. I looked around me for inspiration. Hmm... maybe Spark? Angela? No, they just didn't seem to fit her. I looked at the book of Greek myths in front of me, and suddenly the perfect name occurred to me- Pallas. "But Hyena," you say, "You didn't answer the question! Why did you pick the name Pallas?"
Patience, grasshopper. It was, in fact, from a myth I read in that book.
Now, as you know, there are many versions of all the Greek myths, but this is the one I heard...

As a child, the goddess Athena was raised on a faraway land by a group of nymphs. There, she made a great friend, whose name was Pallas. They grew up together, the best of friends. As they sparred together, Pallas was the only mortal that Athena could call her equal in fighting skill- they often whirled about in ferocious combat, each dodging the other's attacks with ease.
One fateful day, Athena's father Zeus- the kind of the gods- happened to be visiting his daughter. Athena and Pallas were in friendly combat at the time, both holding a sharp spear. Zeus watched them happily, pride for his daughter filling his immortal body. Suddenly, Pallas gave a quick lunge with her spear, sending the sharp tip straight towards Athena's forehead. Instinct took over. Zeus sprinted with all his might towards Athena- and he was a god, so he could sprint pretty fast- and, standing behind her, held up the Aegis- a cloak bearing the severed head of a Gorgon. The effects of the powerful Aegis washed over Pallas, and she stood, momentarily stunned, in front of Athena.
Athena had already dodged her friend's spear. By the time her father had used the Aegis, she had already thrown her own spear, with deadly accuracy, at Pallas's heart, unknowing of her friend's inability to act. Time slowed down. Athena narrowed her eyes in suspicion. "Pallas isn't moving," she thought, as her feet skimmed the grass, preparing to dodge her friend's next attack. "Why is Pallas not moving?" Then she spotted her father behind her, and realized what had happened.
"NO!" Athena cried, desperately reaching for Pallas's arm.

It was too late. Pallas lay, cold and unbreathing, on the ground, her best friend's spear protruding from her chest.
Athena mourned greatly for the loss of her friend. She built a great statue of Pallas, and draped a piece of the magical cloak around it's shoulders. The statue was later called the Pallas Athena.

p e r s o n a l i t y

Pallas is a poetic young pup from the country, where she lived on a farm for most of her life before moving to the city. She's strong and resourceful, and is usually prepared for anything, with a whole survival kit stuffed into the black rucksack she carries with her. Some may argue that she's paranoid (most of their evidence coming from her heavily booby-trapped room and extensive knowledge of poisonous fungi), but she stubbornly denies it, insisting that she is merely taking precautions against the many dangers of life.

r e l a t i o n s h i p s

Pallas, after leaving the country, was forced to make new connections in her city home.

One of her closest friends is a strange, snakelike, wolf with bright green hair and abnormally long canines.
Image
Image

Conda and Pallas have often been told that they make a strange pair. The neon green weirdo with the unsettling glint in her eye and the adorable dark-pawed country girl don't exactly seem like they would be BFFs, but friends they are. Pallas has a calming effect on her skittish companion, and Conda shows her friend the ropes of the city, keeping her out of trouble (though it is arguable that she causes more trouble than she prevents).

I do not own the sunset picture, the song, or the music video used in this form. The 'Pallas' text was made using this generator. Conda is a character I own, designed by hipster shibe.

Woke up
Wished that I was dead
With an aching in my head
I lay motionless in bed
The night is here
The day is gone
And the world spins madly on

Which adopt?: #1 <33
Username: The One & Only Vapor
Name: Mistira, meaning "glowing lightning"/"bright lightning"
Gender: Female homosexual
One Quirk: Misti tends to twitch or curl her toes when she's nervous, stressed or lying. Since her pawpads produce the white mist around her paws, it's a dead giveaway for when she's lying or stressing about something, as the blood flow in her paws will increase the mist she gives off. o u o

# 2 Deke

# 2, # 2, orange and black; I love you

Hello, I'm Hell Hound, wishing to adopt this little fella to accompany me on many journeys <3 This boy, whom I'd call Deke, reminded me of a gorgeous little bird called the Hoopoe. Because of the Hoopoe's hypnotizing wings, elegantly long beak and royal crown, I couldn't help but relate the species to this beautiful canine.
Deke is an adventurous fellow who absolutely loves a voyage through the forest or, better yet, chilly days when the snow thickly covers the Earth in which he'd play until the sun kissed the horizon, and retreat home to curl up by the crackling fire in a cozy blanket to stick his nose deep into fantasy novels. A steaming cup of hot cocoa makes it even better, but best of all he enjoys the company of his closest friend.
Deke is generally a lax guy, who is very open minded and loves to try new things. He doesn't get mad often, merely frustrated, and uses every ounce of control in his body to never direct it on another. He blames himself for things that others have done, to protect them and himself from getting into an argument. Deke is wise enough to understand that a silly clash of opinions is not worth demolishing a good friendship.
One thing Deke adores is adventures. He'd follow you to the end of the world and never leave your side, and would sacrifice himself for a pal in a heartbeat. This sweet fellow is a curious soul and loves to explore new topics and learn more about the elements around him.
One of his favourite activities is reading. He loves fantasy books, especially those that take place in a mythical forest with beautiful creatures thriving within, and would gladly waste the day away with his breath caught on every thrilling page.
Deke is playful and still in his early years. Though his body is strong and mature like an adult's, he enjoys a nice game with a friend, including a gentle play-wrestle. However, instead of galloping around in tag, he likes to track. He loves to sniff out the trail of anything and find out where they went, and perhaps even catch up with them. He finds tracking exciting, and enjoys using his acute senses to pinpoint prey. Playing this with a companion lets him improve these skills and put that smokey black nose of his to work.
I adore this boy because of his stunning features. The splashes of black and white against and orange body, flowing with stripes, is amazing. I'm especially falling for his golden-lime eyes that hug you with every glance. Adding to that, his glorious white mane completes him to transform him into a powerful king.

Image
I remember how we first met. I found him on the side of a street in an old cardboard box with a soaked and shriveled scrap of paper with the word "free" crudely scribbled across. I slid my hands under his cold forelegs and lifted him up out of the rotting cardboard den. As weak with hunger as he was, he still managed a slight movement of his tail; a small wag of 'hello'. He wasn't in the best shape. his fur was matted and dripped with who knows what, rainwater, sewer water... Whatever it was, it didn't smell too great. Streams of goop leaked from his eyes; but the light of those stunning golden lime eyes pierced through and met my own. I'll never forget the moment my eyes meet his, and it had felt like a stroke of electricity coarsed through us both.
Luckily on that cloudy day in which the sky sprinkled us with rain drops, I had brought my jacket. I wrapped the warm cloth around his shivering body and carried the pup to my house so I could tend to his needs.
The first few days, his tail was glued between his legs. Though he trusted me enough, the new smells of my small home made him noticeably nervous. Perhaps it was because my neighbour has a roaming tabby who crosses through our yard.
I nursed the large pup and gave him what I could. But soon I could deny it no longer, my place was too small. How could this canine grow big and live in such a small area? Despite the walks, it wasn't enough to stretch his muscles. He needed open land. Space to breath. Why did I take him in? I wonder. But he snuggled up to me and I looked into those beautiful golden lime orbs of his I can't seem to get over.
Image

The trust he gives. The love he provides. How could I ever doubt the presence of such a beautiful creature? No, not just his stunning coat, but his heart. That big gentle heart of his that makes him beautiful. I throw my arms around his shoulders and realize he's not just a growing pup anymore. I feel the muscles under his gleaming coat. His thick white mane and his heavy paws. He's not my little boy anymore. No longer will I have to watch over him. I'm not his caretaker anymore, and yet he stays. I leave the door open every night so he can come and go as he pleases. At first a little interest in the stars, but then he'd come right back and curl up next to me, his thick fur warming me. I can feel his hot breath against my face, I can see the rise and fall of his belly with each breath. I'm not his caretaker. I am his companion.
I decide my home is merely a den for this large creature. I cannot coop him up in this house. If he will not go without me, I will just have to set out with him.
I remember the first time I stepped out of the door before daybreak, knowing I wouldn't return until the day was over. Deke pressed his bulky head up into my hand and I gave him a nice scratch. We set out, leashless as it has always been, but not just for a walk. We were not on any set course. I practically shut off my mind and we went to wherever our souls desired.
When the sun sunk low and the moon peeked above the horizon, I grew weary. We had spent a magnificent day in the forest, hiking long ways and pausing to bask in the sun. We didn't worry about turning back.
Finally my nerves set it. I didn't like it. I wanted to stay in this bliss, to walk on forever with this canine I love with all my heart. I was forced into reality when I heard a snap in the thicket. My head whipped around to stare fearfully at whatever was there, and faithful Deke turned and looked at me, his soft eyes purring it's okay, no danger. Just a squirrel scampering up a tree in the moonlight. I pulled Deke close and buried my face in his long neck fur. I was scared. How could I not be? I brought nothing with me. Nothing other than the clothes on my back and a canine by my side.

Image
Deke led me away to a small clearing at the edge of the forest, all the way on the opposite side of which we had came. He lay down and flicked his ears, telling me I could let my guard down and he would alert me at any sense of danger. I trusted him. We lay down in the gleam of the moon and stars, and I heard another sound in the forest. An echoing hoot of an owl, about to begin it's hunt for small field mice. But this time I didn't flinch. My eyes drooped and I fell into a comfortable snooze next to my best friend.
I woke up with Deke by my side, awake, watching the forest murmur in the morning sun. I yawn and rise to my feet, motioning to Deke to follow as we headed home. The journey back held little emotion. I was relaxed, and Deke zigzaged tree-to-tree ahead of me, sniffing all the smells that had ever crossed this path, knowing immediately which trees held squirrels roosted high above in the forest's canopy. I was not upset to be returning home. For I knew this journey was not our last.
When we came through the door, it felt different. This was not where we were going to spend whole days. This was just merely a den for us to have a warm, dry place if we ever really needed it.
We stayed for the night to rest up and get packed. I didn't want to stay here. I didn't want to be surrounded by concrete buildings and smell gasoline instead of grand trees and fresh air. A wild life was our style. Finally my eyes were open to what my heart desires; to be one with nature, and not depend on environment-killing producers. It's not a nice feeling to realize the answer to the question of where you would be, what would you do, if these companies did not exist. Helpless to fend for yourself.
Despite being in the forest, I didn't know how to hunt and didn't plan on learning how to. I could fish, but I don't want to have to kill something. I can't do it cleanly, so the animal would be brutally murdered by inexperienced hands. It's bad enough to become someone's meal, and I didn't want some poor wild boar or pheasant to suffer inhumanely. I knew I would continue to purchase and live off of food from the store. I'm just too clueless to hunt, and though Deke may be a canine, he's, thankfully, never killed anything.
I bundled up some food and we trekked out, in no specific direction. If we ended up in the same place as we had last time, so be it. But this time, we took more turns and ended up on our feet even as the sun yawned into the sky, turning it a magnificent series of red and orange swirls. I was getting tired. My eyes drooped as I trudged through the forest, and Deke was getting tired aswell, his glorious tail no longer wagging. We needed to rest. We stopped under as large oak tree and settled down for a nap. I didn't set up any shelter, but I managed to bring a flame to life and we sat close to it, Deke's shoulders hunched over to conserve body heat.
I hadn't realized I had fallen asleep until my drowsy eyes opened, hours past midday. It was a rough night, but I had no regrets. I was laying on my side at the base of the oak, with Deke's head on my side, his gleaming eyes looking into mine. He gave in inviting wag of his bristly tail, and a small whine. He was ready to set out again today, and ruffling his long fur on his white mane I stood up, gathered my bearings, and we started out again, but not towards home. Actually, at this point, I don't even remember which way home is. I don't recognize this small patch of green. But I didn't feel any worry or stress. I had no leash that tied me back to my house, no solid reason to go back, and I absolutely loved that feeling.
Image
Deke and I eventually ended up finding a trail that led us to a lake. And there, we found to perfect place. Not a house, but a home in the forest, our little land that the hikers who scarcely braved these trails never ventured. It was above a rock face, close to the cover of trees with the soft dirt carpeted with orange and brown pine needles. The rock face had multiple levels, allowing a passageway down to the lake which provided water, a place to cool down, and as I later found out, plenty of fish.
We settled down easily in our site in the woods. After many unsuccessful tries, I managed to create a reasonable fishing rod from a flexible branch, woven long grass, and a hook carved with a sharp rock from the shed antlers of a deer after mating season. We customized our own beds with moss and I had caught and cooked my very first fish. I had never cooked over an open fire like this before, but had seen enough movies to know to poke a stick through it and rotate it above the fire. Deke gobbled it up, and later enjoyed gnawing the remains of the deer antlers.
I had found a hard rock, suitable to be a decent meat-cutting knife, and strong enough to carve more from antlers, fallen from the great heads of fighting males. We ended up finding our way back home, but didn't stay for long. As time passed, we visited the house less and less, and it was forgotten. More fish were roasted, lake water boiled, and believe it or not, I actually figured out how to properly clean and skin a carcass that gave me warm winter clothes that withstood the cold weather. Sure it had holes in it, but I sure was proud of how our lives were turning out to be.
Image
I am not someone cut off from civilization. Deke and I are not avoiding the people. We do not have some deep reason to be here other than the fact that this feels so good, too be out here under the stars. I am not a nature survivalist, we are not wild creatures. We're not experts in this kind of stuff. We have so much to learn. But with Deke by my side I know we can both pull through this together.
When the snow patted the ground and tracks followed our feet, we did head back to the house. We have heating there, and as much as we love good adventures, we'd rather not freeze to death. We headed back just in time before a blizzard hit and the fish-providing lake froze over. As Fall swung around we ventured out again, every day but not risking a night in the icy forest. But it sure was beautiful to see the sparkling snow that dotted the plants so wildly, and to see where small snow birds hopped that morning.
I remember that summer that came. Deke and I had found a new place that reached out to the stars. And as the fire sizzled and I felt the heartbeat of Deke against my own, I knew that this was pure happiness. I had never felt so at peace before in my life. I nuzzled Deke and he gave me a big slobbery lick with a wag of his tail. I gazed at the sparkling constellations in awe and heard the soft chorus of many crickets bellowing their songs. I stroked Deke's ears and let the smooth gust of wind ruffle my hair and Deke's warm coat. Finally, I knew. I knew what true happiness felt like.
