Personality:
Thoughtful. Observant. Shy.
Aurelia prefers to have few friends, only 2-3 but those she is friends with, she is loyal and kind. She has a tendency to clam up when around others, making her seem rude, although truthfully she is just very shy. She is usually lost in thought or daydreaming of strange things, and she will often sit by the window and stare out into the world while she ponders. She likes to observe things, and take note of the world she lives in by noticing small details that others do not pay attention to.
Background Story:
Aurelia had a fairly standard childhood, she had two good, kind parents that loved her very much and a younger sister, and while they never had much, they were happy with their life. However, this soon all began to change when Aurelia was but a juvenile. Her sister, who had always been weaker and smaller, was struck down by a strange and terrible plague. While tending to her, Aurelia's mother Theresa also fell ill with the same disease. They would avoid water, food, and sunlight at all costs, and their eyes were listless. For three days they were like this, and that is when they began to froth at the mouth. They began to mutter to themselves crazy things and soon they were screaming for water. Aurelia hid and watched as her mother tackled her father.
"Do youuu have waaaterr!?" She screamed as he struggled to get away. Aurelia looked away but she knew what happened next. When her father, Chaz, said no, the rabid Theresa killed him in her desperation for water. Her sister, Selena, was already falling over with seizures when Theresa was struck down as well and after a minute or two, all of her family was dead. It happened so fast that, in shock, Aurelia stumbled away, not comprehending what had just happened.
She was in a daze, and she slipped on something slimy and nasty-smelling and slid down an asphalt hill, landing chest-high in a vat of stinking garbage. Shivering, she huddled there, afraid, not knowing what to do, when the dozers began to pour dirt over the landfill she was in. Aurelia yelped and lurched up, scrabbling out of the landfill. Her paw twisted, caught cruelly in some human litter, and she whimpered, but sprung free and raced, limping, out of the landfill. The barbed fencing cut her dirty coat when she squeezed through and snagged her tail. To make matters worse, it was beginning to storm. Aurelia wandered for what seemed like forever, hurt, dirty, alone and confused until she found shelter- a small cardboard box under a train station bench. She pushed herself into the box and tucked her nose under one paw, shivering. Her coat was damp and her fragile heart was breaking.
She had just closed her eyes when she heard footsteps coming through the now-pounding rain. She glanced up to see a young woman walking through the rain, shivering, clutching her arms to her, pulling her damp coat around her. She looked as miserable as Aurelia felt. The woman paused, feeling Aurelia's gaze on her. She knelt down and peered through her dripping hair into Aurelia's eyes.
"Hello girl," she whispered, blinking rain from her eyes in surprise. She cautiously stretched out a hand to the scared, dejected looking Axis. She had heard about them, but never met one. Aurelia hesitated, but sensed no malice in the human female's soft hand, and she pushed her nose into the human's hand, relaxing slightly as the human began to stroke her.
"Hey girl you look like you've had kind of a rough day, huh?" The woman whispered, blinking more water out of her eyes. She smiled at the lonely Axis. "You must not have a home... Or maybe you ran away?" The woman continued to speak to Aurelia in a soft, comforting way. "How would you like to come home with me?" The woman asked in a whisper. Aurelia's heart dared to hope, and she raised her head slightly. "I'll give you a bath, clean you up, give you some food and a warm, dry place to sleep... How does that sound, eh?" The woman asked.
Aurelia thought it sounded like heaven. She crawled from her wet, uncomfortable nest and straight into the woman's arms. The woman stood, gently picking Aurelia up. She was still young, and Aurelia was very thin, so the woman didn't have much trouble carrying her. She carried Aurelia to her small, cozy home, and gave Aurelia everything she could wish for.
The woman was lonely, and Aurelia knew how to comfort her- not with words or noises, but with a paw on the shoulder, a gently lick to the face, or a nudge with her face. The woman, Shadow, in turn gave her food, shelter, and love.
