Short Story
Nikoda was outside running around when he heard the sound of the whistle. It was time for training to begin! He instinctively ran towards the sound of the whistle and was scooped up in gentle arms. The man who owned them laughed as he set the wriggling pup down and put the harness on. He had done the same with the other pups and then he signaled the mother with his hand. She trotted around doing all the usual dog things, the pups trailing after her. But she was teaching them how to stay together as a team. A week or two later, the pups were hitched together, with the mother at the head leading. The father was hitched behind to keep them in line, and off they went. At first, it was sort of a mess. But then within the next couple of weeks the pups got it. Nikoda howled and the rest joined in. They put him at the head, with two behind and then the last pup at the end, and watched them run with the miniature sled and their daughter Jess acting as musher. The pups would still have a long time in training, but for now the outlook was looking good.

Short Story: written in anthro, third person

Alaska giggled, running around in the snow in obvious joy. She did a couple cartwheels, toppling over into the cold, frozen ice. "Come on, guys!" She called, laughing as she ran to the top of a short hill. Her littermates watched her with a slight frightened expression. She didn't know if they didn't like the snow or her over-abundant amount of enthusiasm. She stopped when she reached the top of the hill, then, with a determined expression on her face, landed on her bottom with a plop. From there she slid down the short hill, screaming and laughing the whole way. She could see her littermates just watching her out of the corner of her eye, but she didn't care. She was having fun and that was that!

She jumped to her feet at the bottom of the hill. She grinned, remembering her parents' remarks, "We can never get rid of her energy!" "Wow, Alaska is always moving... always!" She looked around and saw another hill, but this one was taller. She was oblivious to almost everything except the hill. She tore up the side, determined to reach the top and slide down. When she climbed the hill, she immediately sat and made sure she had everyone's attention. One of her siblings just laughed and turned away. Alaska frowned and kicked her way off down the hill. She closed her eyes and screamed in excitement, but her mouth was suddenly full of snow! She opened her eyes to only see darkness. She shivered. She was inside a giant snow mound! That's what I get for not looking..., Alaska thought, giggling while shivers rocked her frame, or maybe for having too much fun.
