Exhausted, she stood rasping for air. No food for days, and running for an hour and a half now, the spotted female was close to giving up. Her legs shook while she stared at the concrete. Could she get out, she wondered? Even with her new friends help she didn't know how much more she could take. She closed her eyes for a moment, hearing her chasers come closer from behind, footsteps approaching. "Let them take me..." She thought desperately, not wanting to go farther. Then suddenly she felt a soft paw on her forehead. Without words, she knew her friend was there. He had her back.
The Siamese purred while sitting on her head, still patting Fern's head fluff with one paw. "Down the ally and take a left. We still have a mile to go. Think you could make it?" He said, looking down at her. She looked up at him in the dark. With him she could do just about anything despite how bad she felt.

Lets do this."
And with exchanged nods she ran down the ally, disappearing into the night.
