Alrighty, let's get started,
I, in no way, want to hurt you verbally, simple crtis, all I'm going for ;u;
Eyes~ Think of a sphere, and think about how the eyelids over lap it, also think about the tear duct, that plays a major role in the wolf's eye appearance. As for a more cartoony look, I just didn't quite exaggerate the tear ducts.
Nose~ I, for some reason, always have a problem with this. A simple triangle will do for a cartoony nose. I like to actually show the nostrils and such. Think of an oblong rectangle as the top of the nose, and a triangle with circles cut out at the ends... if that makes any sense... like an upside down triangle with slits cut into the edges alright?
Ears~ Ugh. Hate these. Hate them. So much. Think of a pyramid cut in half basically. Your ears just need to be a little wider and shorter.
Fur~ Ew. Coloring in fur is just... ew... Wolf fur is very thick, chunky and clumped together. Not nice and sleek, it sticks almost straight out of the skin. As for cartoony fur, I think more of clumps of fur, and base it off of that.
Positioning ~ Wolves don't hold their heads like horses do. They have a thick, short neck that holds their head almost parallel to their back. Eyes need to be a little lower and closer to that little dip where their muzzle meets their forehead. As for the muzzle, don't round of the top... nose/jaw/lip thing. Pay attention to the end of the muzzle on my illustration.
Sketch~ Sketching is my best friend. In your sketch, you simply blocked out the shapes, which is great! But then you're left to do all your details in the final drawing. I suggest blocking in your simplest sketch, go on to fur, ears and nose. Then add in pretty details, like the mouth, eyes and tiny fur details c:
References... Always use a reference if you aren't positive on the anatomy or want to get it just right c;
My reference was a painting, however it was anatomically correct.
Hope I helped, feedback welcome and encouraged <3
