Anyway, here you go! c: Hope it isn't too hard to understand. I tried to show what I did step by step.
- 1.) Start out with basic shapes to build a 'skeleton' on. It helps keep things in proportion, and guides you as you go.
- 2.) Outline it. It's okay to keep it sketchy, if you need to, and you can go over it in black later, when you're happy with it. This is where you define the face and neck, and detail the outline. For the arabian, the neck should curve inwards more and have a higher crest. Faces should be concave. For drafts, keep the inside of the neck more straight, and make the crest high. The face should be convex. For normal horses, keep the neck kind of triangular. The slant of the face should be straight, too.
- 3.) Add details. (Excuse my screwed up anatomy here. =P) Define the muscles in the neck, and the bones in the face. Add the eye, nostril, and mouth.
- 4.) Draw in the mane. I would try drawing in 'locks' or clumps of hair, then pretty much scribbling in strands in between. xD Make sure the strands are flowing in different directions, and you have a few hairs that cross over and are out of place. You don't want it too 'perfect', because then you'll have stick straight manes.
Hope this helps you! (:
