Username: TILL ALL ARE ONE
Name: Sierra
Gender: F
Pup #: 9
Personality: Sierra is a calm character, not quiet, but calm. She loves taking walks, and in her wild forest home she survives with ease, surprising though it may be. She is an excellent hunter, and she learned patience early. She is most often seen gnawing on an old bone by the riverbed, tail waving gently and happily. She is one of the several dogs who once lived in farms a ways off into the open field until a fire destroyed their homes, and in panic their owners left some of them behind. Sierra lost her mother to the fire, and has since strongly detested it as a dog-hating cat might detest her. She lives alone, but in a close community with the other dogs.
Story:
Sierra woke with a start.
Something wasn't right.
A strange smell wafted by her nose, and she sneezed several times, pushing to her oversized paws. With a pitiful whine, she trotted towards her mother who was sitting at the entrance to the barn.
She looked down at Sierra and, as the puppy whined and scooted closer, bent her furry head and licked her tenderly. We must go, she seemed to say. I will bring you past the river, where you will be safe. Then I will return to help the other animals. There is danger here; man has left a camp unheeded, and fire comes towards us.
Sierra whined, but licked her mother's cheek and curled up on her paw, pressing against her warmth. You come back?
I cannot promise anything, but yes. I will do my best to come back. Her mother slid down her elbows and rested her warm neck over her pup.
There she laid, protected, warm and with the comfort of her mother...
It seemed an eternity before Sierra felt gentle pricks on her body, and she looked up to see her mother carrying her firmly about the midsection. They were running, rocking smoothly over the ground as it raced past them.
She let off a whine, but it died in her throat when her mother splashed into a stream. It turned into a yelp as the cold liquid sloshed over her belly and neck.
On the far side, her mother set her down carefully, then with a quick flick of her tongue on Sierra's cheek raced back the way they had come, water flying outwards as she bounded through. Sierra leaped up and began howling and barking and whining and yelping, chasing after, tail spinning like a helicopter.
She had to stop short, however, when she came to the water's rushing edge. She looked up just in time to see her mother disappear among the brush.
With a miserable flop, she curled up on the ground and dropped her head on her paws, staring wistfully into the trees.
She never saw her mother again.
