Just a quick example of what my darling Sprinkle's little plushie friend, Buttons, might look like if he were a real fish and not just a little plush toy.

Sometimes, Sprinkle would sit and gaze at Button as he lay in a pool of bright sunlight, his button eye glittering, and she'd imagine what it would be like if he were real. They'd be playing in a pond of crystal-clear, icy-blue water, and she'd playfully chase him in a circle, batting gently at the water's surface as he twisted and swam gracefully just ahead of her, teasing her. She'd giggle and try to swim faster, but he'd always be faster than she was in the water. At the end of the day, she'd lay on the edge of the ground next to the pond and chatter at him, and he'd flap his fins and nod his little head knowingly. But soon enough the sun would fall and it would be time to go home, into the house, where it was safe and warm, and Sprinkle would cry because she couldn't take him with her. He couldn't survive on land without his water, and it would be cruel to trap him inside a tiny fish tank when he was used to the freedom of having the entire pond to himself. Sometimes, she imagined she'd have nightmares, if he were real, too: what if a fisherman came along and liked her little darling so much that the cruel man lured him in with a flashy little toy, and stuck her favorite friend with that sharp lure, and dragged him away from her? She'd never be able to sleep for fear that when she returned, her friend wouldn't be there anymore. No, it was best that he was just her sweet, playful little plushie. Grinning at her favorite toy, she kissed the top of Button's head and purred warmly.
