He came to me as the "renegade of L.A. City". Deemed "L.A's Most Wanted" due to his wild ways, he was banned from the area and brought to Villalobos to live out the rest of his life. But I saw something in him, that others didnt. He was so unassuming, so grateful for whatever attention I could give him. He never caused a problem here and always had great things to offer. I miss him very much and so will his friend the Renegade Squirrel, who lived for each afternoon to come over and tease the hell out of him thru the fence. It was a game they both enjoyed. The day Apache passed on, the squirrel didn't show up. He never came again. I don't know how he knew, but he did. I guess he misses him too.
The first thing I must say about pitbulls is that they are amazing dogs that are extremely misunderstood. Unfortunately they will do anything to please their owners and if their owners teach them to attack, they will do so as aggressively as possible.
In the beginning of the 20th Century, the American Pit Bull Terrier was the most popular family dog so how has that changed?
According to the American Temperament Test Society, Pit Bulls pass the test with flying colors. In fact, the Pit Bull scores 82% or more. The success of Pit Bulls in this series of tests proves they are not naturally mean or violent.
After a dam broke on the Tijuana River stranding 12 dogs and one cat on an island, Weela (A Pit Bull Terrier) crossed the river to take food to them for a month until they could be rescued. Weela led a rescue team to a group of 13 stranded horses and ran back and forth barking to warn a group of 30 people of the deep water they were attempting to cross. Weela was awarded Ken-L-Ration's Dog Hero of the Year in 1993 for her bravery.
