History.
My name is Adamantium. Well, it really should be Adam, but nobody calls ma that anymore.
I was born in a litter of 3 puppies, and we were abandoned rather quickly. Our mother was a fox, our father a jack russel. His owner came for him, and our mother was shot by a hunter. So we were alone. I was the fastest of my siblings, but I was still weak. My sister died in a week. So me and my brother struggled through life, me giving most of what I caught to him. I was wasting away. Then an eagle took him. He was a good meal I am sure. So then there was me. I crawled into the open, wanting to die in the sun. But I didn't. I was taken away by a woman. She was kind, and raised me. She named me Adam in leu of her long dead son. I grew into a healthy animal, and enjoyed life for about 5 years. But I was not meant to have survived, and nature was ready to put me in my place. My owner left for work, and I was hungry. I climbed onto the counter and began to rummage in the cupboards. I knocked a half-open box of strike-anywhere matches to the floor, and watched as one fell out. It lit in the full recycling bin in the corner, and the blaze began. I ran as fast as I could, but my instincts treated me poorly. I went up the stairs, as high as I could. The smoke choked me, and the flames lapped hungrily at my toes. I smashed against the window in a last-ditch effort to escape. I did. But the blaze was outside now too, and I ended up in smouldering flames, struggling to stay conscious. Then the house teetered and fell. I knew there had been termites, but this was worse than I had thought they could be.
I woke up, cold. My vision was blurred. So cold. My fur was gone, replaced by dry and scalded skin. I felt no heat. But then the pain. Not on my skin, in my lungs. Then I realized I was underwater. I struggled to escape, but I was tied down. Humans in white suits gazed at me, and I squirmed, waiting for one of them to move. None of them did. As I felt my lungs strain, ready to burst, the water drained, and my skin began to burn. I blacked out again. I don't know how long it was until came around, but I had a new coat of soft, orangey brown stubble growing in. First thing I noticed was that one of my eyes was working too well. I pawed it uncertainly, only to fall backwards. A metal arm was touching my face. The laughter of scientists filled the air around me. I scrambled up, alarmed. My leg was gone, replaced by this odd metal thing. My tail was a cord, studded with little knobs of bone. "Sir, the skin doesn't seem to be growing in". One of the scientists was speaking. "Oh, just dunk it then." With those words, I was scooped up and carried to a scalding pot of molten metal. My tail was dipped, and I squirmed, trying to escape. I managed to send myself flying, and took off at full speed towards the light at the end of the hall. The last thing I remember was the sign on the cage I woke up in: "25890 - Adamantium, Dangerous, Metal Limbs". Is this what I had become? An experiment? Maybe nature should just have been given her way...
