Nickname: Auri
What would its gender be?:
Female
Why do you want it?:
I'd love to bore you with a long, touching story on why I absolutely love her and must have her, but she's just pretty.
History/background/other:
Tigris yawned, waking at the same time she did every morning, at first light. Like every other day, she got up and ate breakfast, then headed to work.
Her green wings fluttered, her small brown paws lifting from the ground, and she was soon on her way to the Meadow. She would meet up with her partner, Jupiter, and receive the instructions for the day. Same old, same old.
Jupiter was waiting for her at the river, as he always was. Tigris smiled and landed next to him.
"Ready to go?" Jupiter asked with a grin. Tigris rolled her golden eyes.
"Duh." She stuck her tongue out at him and took off again. He hurried to catch up.
"What do you think we'll get today?" Jupiter asked. It was something of a joke between them, pretending not to know how their day would be going. It was the same each time. Tigris and Jupiter always ended up gaurding the palace, definitely the most boring job ever. Sitting in one place all day, every day. It didn't make you eager to get to work, that's for sure.
"Dunno," Tigris mused, feigning a thoughtful look. "Hope it's not guard duty."
This cracked Jupiter up, even though it wasn't at all funny. They continued to chatter like this until they reached the Meadow.
The Meadow was, well, a meadow. They flew into the clearing and took their place in the group of fairies, trying to look as if they were paying attention. Tigris wasn't listening to the briefer, who was calling out names and giving them the rundown.
"Team Five, south border."
Tigris jumped. She was team five. They never got patrols, ever. She glanced at Jupiter and almost giggled. He looked suprised too. He caught her looking and made a face at her before they were scolded by the briefer.
"Alright. Report to duty!"
Jupiter and Tigris started off to the south border in semi-silence. Both were still shocked that they had gotten something new.
"So..." Jupiter tried to start up a conversation. "You were right- no guard duty."
"Yeah, aren't I so great?" Tigris asked with a smirk. Jupiter rolled his eyes.
"Well, we're here," he said finally. "I guess I go this way, you go that way?"
Tigris shrugged. They had been informed on how to do each station when they'd first begun working there, but had promptly forgotten what to do. "I guess."
They both parted ways and had an uneventful morning, meeting up again at sunhigh for a quick lunch.
"That was exciting," Tigris said sarcastically. Jupiter simply nodded, mouth full.
"I thought it was going to be better than what we usually get, bu-" Tigris stopped. Jupiter looked at her quizzically and swallowed.
"What?" he asked.
"Shh!" Tigris shushed him. "Do you hear that?"
They fell silent and listened hard.
"No..." Jupiter began.
"There it is!" Tigris whispered. This time Jupiter heard, too. A soft yipping, close by. She tip-toed towards the sound and looked around. "Where-" She gasped.
"What?" Jupiter hurried over and sucked in a breath. A young fairy was grinning up at them happily, it's fur filthy and rugged. It couldn't have been more than three months old.
"Hello," Tigris cooed, leaning in. "Where are your parents?" The pup tilted its head.
"We should get it back to the Meadow," Jupiter suggested. "We haven't seen any sign of the mother, and she's technically an intruder." Tigris snorted. It was true, by all the rules the pup was a threat.
"Alright," she agreed. "Let's go, then." She picked it up by the scruff and they flew back to base. The briefer was suprised; never had he had to deal with lost pups. He was pacing, muttering to himself suggestions on what to do with the little one, which was snuggled against Tigris.
"Um, sir?" Tigris asked, inturrupting his train of thought. "I could take care of her. I mean, for now, at least."
He looked at her blankly, then shook himself and nodded. "Yes, yes. Good. Now, take the thing somewhere. You two are relieved of duty for the day."
Back at home, Tigris watched the pup. "What's your name?" she asked quietly, more to herself.
The pup looked up at her for a moment, then continued to play with a twig she'd found. A name instantly sprung to Tigris's mind.
"Auriolus," Tigris murmured, raising an eyebrow. The pup smiled, eyes bright. Tigris repeated the name. "Auriolus."
A short story I wrote in a hurry. I admit, it needs some work.
What do you plan on doing with it?:
Art, art, art, and more art! And using her in short stories, of course.
Have you adopted from us before?:
I think so.
