When Méli was young her parents died, this is that story:
I felt myself falling into a deep sleep. I tried to hold on, to keep watching for danger, but I was too weak to stay thinking. My brain was shutting down and I blacked out. I wondered what the other’s thought of me, falling to the ground, my body going limp. The last thing I saw was my mother running towards me and my father’s howls of pain. I could still here a little. My father called for my mother, but she stayed by me, crying the whole time until I heard her let out a few whining yips and crying to my father. Then it all went silent. I couldn’t smell anything, hear anything, or see anything. My mind went completely blank.
I felt myself coming back to life. My ears flickered back and forth, my nose twitched. The smell of blood rushed into my nose and consumed my thoughts. Blood. There could only be one explanation. I shot up from the ground. My eyes opened wide, very alert to my surroundings. My tail rested lighting a top the ground.
“Mother? Father?” I called for them. My voice was raspy and high pitched. I was always that way as a child. No one responded. I raced over to a clutter of leaves and rocks. My head felt heavier and I felt very drowsy. I spotted my fathers paw. Pink with a black heart in the middle, just like mine. Though my heart was misshaped. I sprinted over to him, pushing the boulders off his ribcage.
“Father...?” I whimpered. His dark brown coat was stained with crimson. His lungs didn’t move, they looked indented where the boulder had lay. I nudged him and heard the cracks of bones. Wincing I leaped back and my head hung low, almost touching the ground.
“Father, please, don’t leave me.” My father had always been a big inspiration in my life. He taught me the most important things, like fighting, and hunting. He was my role model. Though now, he was a crush spirit, that never got to see his daughter grow up and become a fighter like he always wanted me to be. He would say that when I grew up and had became mighty, I would be the best at what I was destined to do. Now my gaze was descended upon his face. Blood trickled out of his mouth and nose. His eyes were open but not moving. They were a hazy gray color. His fur was in every direction, I just couldn’t bare to look at him anymore. I lifted his body onto my back and carried him deep into the woods, covering him in autumn leaves.
Then a thought sprung into my mind. Mother! Where was she? Was she still alive? I raced out of the woods, saying my last good-byes to my father. My legs were weak, and there was cuts all over my body. But they were minor, and would heal easily.
“Mother! Mother where are you?” I called. I heard a little moan off to the right. The sound came from behind a fallen tree. As I turned the corner around the tree I saw my mothers frail body shivering on the ground. Her whole body was shaking and her eyes were wide open. Her leg was stuck under the tree, and it looked very flat.
“Mother, oh dear, let me help you.” I said in a cooing voice. I pushed at the tree, but it was too big to move. So I decided I would have to pull my mother’s leg out. I grabbed onto the nap of her neck and pulled. She let out a howl that sounded more like a screech, it frightened me causing me to let go of her neck and her head fell to the ground.
“Let me help you.” I said. Placing my face in front of her’s. I licked her little pink nose. She tried to smile, or show some joy. I grabbed my mothers neck and pulled to hard I thought her leg was going to come off. Finally it slipped out. Though it was as flat as a piece of bark. She still lay on the ground, blood pooled around her body, mostly near her injured leg.
“Mother, father...he’s gone. I need you. I need a parent. You can’t leave me.” I barked. My mother made a small nod and closed her eyes on the ground. Her breathing getting heavier.
“Méli dear...” She gasped. Her eyes getting bigger.
“I will never leave you, I’ll always...be w- with you.” She licked my cheek. Straining her head to get closer to mind. It dropped back to the ground. Her body started to shake again, but this time her breathing followed. Her breath was shaking and her heart rushed to keep her alive. A tear dripped from the corner of my eye.
“Mother, you said you wouldn’t leave me...” Her breathing came to a halt and her eyes closely closed. Her beautiful, beautiful orange eyes. I’d never see them again.
I collapsed to the ground, on my mother. I licked her face clean and gazed upon her. She looked so peaceful like her pain had truly ended and she was happier now.
“As long as your happy, I am too.” I lay next to my mother until the sky got gray and rain started to spalsh down on my pelt. I knew in the night some creature would come and take away my mother and father. I had the hardest time walking away from them. But I came to find a small den that was sheltered from the rain and rested for the rest of the night in there. It wasn’t warm, and I didn’t feel safe. But as long as my father and mother had no more pain to bear, I promised them I would survive for them. I had to for my father and mother. I know they are watching over me.
