Name: Chevak
Gender: Male
Personality: Chevak is bold and daring. Though he seems the calm and easy going type he can be ones worst nightmare if he needs to me. Chevak is not normally aggressive towards females or youngsters though he may be firm with them. He does have a bit of a wild streak in him and he can be reckless. Though over all Chevak is a understanding guy.
Short Story/History: Chevak was born in Chevak, Alaska and was named for the town. Despite having his fathers southern accent he is all Alaskan. He races and pulls sled along side his brethren. He left Chevak when he was nearly a year old had traveled threw out Alaska. Chevak found himself in Sitka Alaska when he was a little over five years of age. A young sled driver who was just starting out on his own was trying to get his dogs to obey him and pull the sled. However the dogs were still very young only a year or two. They were inexperienced and had no respect for their driver. Chevak walked towards the dogs and snapped at them for disobeying their driver so openly in front of others. The young dogs tried to attack Chevak but failed miserably. Chevak was not only more than twice their age he was more than twice their strength. It was the young 'lead' who would not stop fighting until Chevak flipped him onto his back and held him to the ground until he stopped fighting. It had seemed that the youngster had a reputation for being the strongest of the leaders when he was focused. However he had just lost openly to a strange dog and there for he too lost his respect as a strong lead. Chevak took over the lead position for the young drivers sled team.
It was after that the youngsters found out who they were weak compared to the older male. The team was cutting across a frozen lake when the ice gave way and their driver went under. One of the other dogs had lost his balance and went under as well. Luckily the dogs harness had come loose from the gang-line so he did not pull the rest of the team down. Chevak pulled forward getting the rest of the team off the ice before pulling loose from his harness and going back. He dove threw the hole in the ice and pulled both his team mate and driver from the freezing water and back to the sled. Chevak was able to get the dogs moving again without their drivers orders. Instead of continuing on their train to their home, Chevak lead the team threw the forest and open fields to a town that was much closer. It was his hometown of Chevak, Alaska.
Chevak lead the team threw the town and stopped in front of the clinic. He started barking and raising cane until someone came out and took both his driver and team mate inside to be treated. A young man from the clinic took the now exhausted team to a barn at the end of town and put them in one of the empty stalls that was full of fresh straw for them to bed down in and get warm. Chevak however was not among the team when they were taken to rest. He knew that he would not last much longer in his condition and he did not want his driver or team mates to wake and find him dead among them. Chevak walked down the snow covered road to the other end of town. He crawled under the porch of the now empty house where he had been born and faded out of conciseness. He expected to die there and for his body to freeze over.
Heat from a fire and the sound of a knife cutting wood pulled Chevak back to the world of the living. He looked around to see an old Eskimo man. He knew that the man was Cup'ik since most of the natives here were. After all Chevak was the Cup'ik Eskimo village. "You gave us quite a scare. Your master thought that you were dead. He left you behind and went home." The old man told Chevak. "You have been asleep for an entire week. Your master and team mate both lived thanks to you. Yet they left you to die." He said as he shook his head. "Your must rest now to regain your strength." The old man told him. Chevak listened and laid back down. It had not been his driver that had saved him. No instead it was an elderly man who saw that Chevak was not an ordinary dog but one with great loyalty and devotion.
Chevak was fully recovered within a week but did not leave the old man. He felt that this time he had found where he belong. The old man had saved his life, so in return Chevak would give his life to the old Cup'ik man and keep him company for the rest of his days.
Art: Chevak
Planned use: RolePlay mostly, Possibly breeding later on.
Other: Chevak is actually the name of the Cup'ik Eskimo village in Alaska.
Also for anyone who may state that a sled dog is a husky. That is not entirely true either.
Race/Sled dogs range from hounds to huskies, GSD, poodles, and whatever other breed you want to use.
There is no specific 'breed' for a sled dog. So yes a German Shepherd can be a race/sled dog.
From personal experience they make very strong sled runners.
Best form wins! End date is April 3rd 2012 (I will PM his/her new owner his/her color codes) If I don't think any of the applicants are worthy of this dog by the end date, I will keep the dog myself.
