Shadra smelled blood in the den. He could make out various scents, caribou, lynx, even man, but were near overpowered by the choking stench of wolf blood. His mind immediately went to the pups, and if this ghastly smelling creature might have gotten to them. He clawed out of the den, and leapt over logs and rocks in a flurry of limbs and paws to the meeting place. He poked around under the brush and in the dirt for them, until he stuck his nose into a hollow log, where they lay sleeping in a mess of furry, wriggling bodies. " ...5...6. ( lets out sigh) none missing. Except..." Where was Rose? At the den, he smelled her fear scent mixed with the stale bloody one. He began to follow it through the territory, but was cut off by the river. Water meant a cold, icy death in the Northern Lands. " Rose..." he muttered to himself " Where are you?......" A Lonely, frustrated cry rose in Shadra, "ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooose..." He waited for her velveteen song to answer, but was met with an empty sway of the leaves above. He was unsure weather to return and tend to their pups, or go and find his mate, and what happened to her, but he remembered the bloody stench in the den. For now, he'd have to find another den, if the bloody creature returned.
