Gala Events :: Art + Story Contest

Bandit sat alone on her bed in her room, a hairbrush in hand. She carefully began brushing her fur, making sure not to miss a single spot as she prepared for the Gala. How she got invited was a mystery - well, to her at least. Everyone else who had even a shred of common sense would know that when your dark, mysterious friend comes home with the musky scent of death all over him, holding an invitation to an exclusive ball, that means no good. Of course, that would mean assuming Bandit had common sense.
She smiled as she made her way over to her closet, grabbing two random outfits - a pink, short-sleeved dress, and a black and purple-striped long-sleeved dress - and walked over to the mirror, examining them closely as she tried to figure out which one to wear. Finally, in a bout of frustration, she tossed both of the (hideous) dresses over her head and allowed them to drop onto the floor. Her angered look soon turned to one of a childish silliness, and she giggled, "Haha, I'm blind! What am I doing trying to pick out dresses?"
Again. No common sense whatsoever.

The rest of the gang - Richard, Arthur, and Kuusou - all sat in the living room of their home, each doing their own thing. Richard was polishing his collection of assorted knives; Arthur was chattering away with his "faery friends"; and Kuusou was hunched over a table, scribbling away in a notepad as she thought of new stories to write.
A loud BAM abruptly interrupted their daily routines. Richard flung a knife at the door; Arthur gave a manly shriek of fear (which strangely sounded like a prepubescent girl's); and Kuusou gripped her pen tightly, scratching a dark line across her paper. They all glared towards Bandit's room, and simultaneously looked at one another and growled, "Your turn."
---
Kuusou sighed as the two males of the household bickered like infants at who would go check on Bandit. With a glare and a groan, she stood and walked past the boys, on her way to Bandit's room. As she passed them, she smacked the back of their heads, earning a shout from Richard and a whine from Arthur. But she didn't care. The sooner this was taken care of, the better.
The female stopped in front of her roommate's door, clearing her throat and rapping lightly on the door with her knuckles. "Bandit?" she called. "Bandit, it's me. Kuusou. Are you alright in there, dear?"
A small squeak emitted from behind the closed door. Noises of scrambling paws were heard as the door suddenly flung open, nearly whacking Kuusou in the face. She yelped and jumped back as the thin-tailed Rainbow Paint Wolf smiled sheepishly towards her, covered in green paint.
Kuusou blinked once, twice, three times before sighing heavily and walking over to her friend. "Bandit, deary, what is the meaning of this?" she asked tiredly. "What happened? Why are you covered in paint?"
Bandit put her head down, sightless eyes watching the floor sadly as she gave a pitiful sniffle. "I..." she said, but her voice soon trailed off and died.
Kuusou gripped Bandit's hand lightly in her own, smiling sweetly at the girl. Although Bandit couldn't see it, she heard the sincerity in her friend's voice. "You what? Please, dear, tell me. I won't judge you any more or less."
"...I wanted to go to the Gala tonight..." Bandit began again, sniffling lightly and clenching Kuusou's hand tightly. "I... I was getting ready, and I thought I had some hair clips on the top of my dresser, but when I got up there, all I had was paint and it tipped over and spilled all over me..."
Kuusou couldn't contain a small chuckle, but quickly regretted it when she felt soft sobs racking Bandit's body. She sighed and hugged her friend, not caring about the paint that now got all over her cashmere sweater. "Sweetie, I wasn't laughing at you," she hummed, stroking Bandit's hair gently. "I was just... If you wanted someone to help you get ready - which I'm assuming you did,, please correct me if I'm mistaken - then why didn't you just ask?"
Bandit hiccuped in surprise, turning to face her friend. "Y-you'd...You'd help me...?"
"Of course, darling!" Kuusou smiled towards Bandit. "That's what friends are for, right?"

Now that the existential crisis has passed, I'm not leaving! Sorry for the momentary scare, folks!
