...The two wolves ran for a half day, only stopping to quickly drink. Wolves have incredible stamina, so they didn't need to rest until late afternoon. The sun was just barely starting to lower in the sky, and the wolves were panting hard. So far, they had travled quite a few miles. They had reached the border to a forest of deciduous trees that were thick and bright green. Ash had never been to a forest of falling leaves, only ones of colder pine trees. He wondered what animals lurked in the tall grasses. Bobcats, bears, and weasels lived in pine forests. Maybe nicer creatures lived here? His thoughts were inturrupted by a series of coughs. Ashia looked up and grinned sheepishly. "Sorry. Can we take a quick drink?" Ash smiled and nodded. "Of course. You're the Alpha here." Ashia looked down and sighed. "Yeah. The Alpha." She turned and trotted over to a turquoise stream, grasses spurting out of the water. Ash bent his head down and gulped the sweet, cold water. His throat was slowly soothed by the water, and as he took his last gulp, an aweful snarling noise caused him to gag and choke. He flattened his ears and Ashia whipped her head up, her teeth bared.
The sight they saw was so odd and hilarious that Ash broke down in a fit of laughter. Ashia looked down and raised a brow, shaking her head at him. A young brown timber wolf had a log stuck on her midsection, looking like some human over-wear. She was trying to get up, but kept falling on her side. Ashia stepped forward and said, "Oh dear. What happened?" The young wolf looked up in suprise and her ears fell down, embarrassed. "Oh. This. Umm...well...I was sorta playing hide and seek with the fox, and she gave me a hint about hiding in logs...and I got stuck." Ash stopped laughing and stood up, a grin still on his face. Ashia sighed. "You can never trust a fox, dearie." The brown wolf's blue eyes fell and she shrugged (or so Ash guessed, considering her legs were pushed up by the log anyways). Ash stepped forward and shook off his smile. "Can we help you?" The wolf's eyes turned angry and she tried to back away. "No, I can do it!" Ash shrugged and turned away. Ashia gaped her mouth and whipped around. "Ash! We can't leave her like this!" Ash sighed and rolled his eyes. "She doesn't want help. What could we do to help anyways?" Ashia narrowed her eyes and growled, "Ash, we are helping this pup, whether she wants it or NOT." Ash gulped. "Fine, fine." They turned to the pup who was snarling at the log, trying to bite it. Ash walked up to her and she fell backwards. "What's your name, pup?" The wolf looked up and sighed. "Moon." Ashia padded up and looked closely at the log. "Ash? How're we gonna get this off?" Ash cleared his throat and said, "I have no idea." They all stared at each other, wondering. Ash groaned and looked up at the sky. This was NOT helping them get to his kin. Suddenly, an idea popped into his head. "What if we push her into the stream. Then maybe she will slip out?" Moon's eyes widened, but Ashia paused and nodded. "Maybe." Moon thrashed about and snarled, "NOOO! I am NOT about to drown!" Ash rolled his eyes and growled, "Well, you have any bright ideas?" Ashia sighed and whispered, "Maybe the fox knows how to get her out. She's probably tricked animals like this before and was given the options to either help them get the wolf out, or have her hide skinned." Ash and Moon nodded simultaneously, and Ashia smiled. "So where do we find this fox?" Moon looked up and gulped. "In the old willow."
