Ash was awoken by a soft nudge on his side. He yawned, limbs heavy and numb from a deep sleep. He opened his amber eyes and saw Ashia smiling down at him. "Time to leave, Ash." Ashia turned and started to walk away. Ash stood up and shook his tiredness away, trying to clear his head. They had a long journey ahead of them. "Wait up!" he called quietly, bounding up to her.
Just then, a growl reached his ears, and Ash whipped around, heart racing. Ashia turned around and smiled. "Hello, Alpha Sharpfang." Ash let out his breath, ashamed that he was so scared. The Alpha smiled and whispered, "Hello, daughter. Or...goodbye, I should say." Ashia laughed and swished her tail. "Well, I guess I'm coming back, right? So...goodbye for now?" Alpha Sharpfang's eyes grew dark and he nodded. "Hopefully you will make it there and back safely. Be careful, and protect each other." Ash grinned and nodded. "Of course, Alpha." The Alpha looked at him, and Ash thought he saw pride in them. For his daughter? Or for his pack...maybe for Ash. The thought bewildered him and he got it out of his mind. No...the leader wouldn't be proud of an Omega. Ashia blinked and said softly, "Father...what if we can't find them?" The Alpha just smiled and growled playfully, "I know you'd find them, you're quite the stubborn wolf, aren't you?" Ashia grinned and Ash even laughed a bit.
Behind the Alpha padded up Rider, his blue eyes glowing brightly in the dark. Ash felt his hackles raise and he lifted his head, trying to look tougher. Rider just gave him an evil eye and smiled at Ashia. "Well, I guess I'll see ya around." Ash looked down at Ashia and saw her eyes lower. "Yeah. Guess so." Rider's eyes narrowed and he lowered his head. Alpha Sharpfang walked towards them, his eyes gleaming. "I hope you take good care of her, Ash." Ash nodded gravely, his fur settling back down. He looked over and saw Rider baring his teeth at him, but nobody else seemed to notice. Ashia touched noses with her father and looked up at Ash. "Let's go." She turned and started at a small trot, Ash running up at her side, then they turned their gait into a bound, their muscles warming up with each bound. The air was warm and perfect for a long run, the grass still slightly wet from dew. As the sun started to come up, the wolves' eyes shined with a pure purpose; to survive on maybe the most dangerous adventure of their life.
Please comment! I love comments! P.S.: I think Rider looks awesome here!
