The boy opened his eyes. With a soft moan, he rolls his head, looking at the sky as a gentle drizzle begins to fall. Shaking with effort, the boy pulls his body into a sitting position. Dried blood stains his clothes, his hair, and his skin. He looks at his surroundings, the raises a weary hand. A small flame lights itself in his palm, stuttering for a moment, before blazing into a fist-size inferno. The boy smiles, his eyes sparkling with relief, then his eyes roll into his head and he thumps back to the grouse with a dull thud.

Ivy sits in her dorm, on a bed draped with blood-red blankets. She picks up a dark black case and places it in the bed. With a click, both clasps open and the case reveals its contents, a small and quite beautiful silver flute. With a practiced air, she plucks out the pieces and puts the flute together. Taking a deep breath, she lifts it to her mouth. Soft, shimmering, gentle notes float through the air, and echo all through the campus.

About a half-hour later, the boy opens his eyes for a second time. Soft, melodic notes reach his ears, and he freezes, remembering a girl from his Mage tribe. At top speed, which isn't very fast at the moment, he runs inside, following the notes. He still has a feral, and almost dangerous, look to him as he goes on chase of who he thinks is his old crush. He eventually slows to a jog, then a walk, realizing he is totally, utterly lost.
