Dante shrugged. "Dad kicked me out as soon as I turned eighteen. He decided I needed to learn some independence. I drove until my car ran out of gas, then I walked the rest of the way and ended up settling in my cabin. It was abandoned at the time. I patched it up, though, and it's pretty much been smooth sailing from there on out." He sighed and lowered his eyes. "I suspect, though, that by 'learning some independence' my dad really meant that I should come back when I manage to change. I don't know if it's going to happen, though. I had never wanted it more than right after he slammed the door in my face, and it didn't happen then."

"Wow, I'm sorry, I'm sure you'll gain his acceptance somehow. You might just be, I don't know, a late bloomer." He did honestly feel sorry for the kid, but hearing about this, it didn't help his prejudice towards the shifters.

"Thank you, sir," Dante said, doing his best to give Greg a smile. "To be perfectly honest, you remind me a lot of my father. He fought in the war, like you did."

"Hmm, did he ever talk about it much?" Greg was trying to be civil, he didn't wan to upset Dante by telling him, that he would have killed his father if he had ever seen him.

"Not really," Dante said. "I didn't ever want to ask him, either. He always seemed so tense whenever anyone brought it up that frankly, I was afraid." Dante could smell humans and civilization, very close by. He guessed they were nearing the town. That was something he knew people couldn't do. "Here's something special about shifters. Can you smell the town right now? I can."

"No, that's impressive, can you tell how many people are there are how many are close, or can you just tell 'town'?" Greg emphasized the word town by pushing his hands out with the word.

Dante shook his head. "No, I can't smell out specific people, not unless I've met them beforehand and know how they smell. And I can't just smell a town, either. But civilization has a certain combination of smells: metal, food, smoke, and of course, people."

"Okay, I see what you mean." Greg then stopped at his house. "Well, this is my home, feel free to use any facilities you want to, I need to get a few things from inside."

"Alright, sir," Dante said, moving against the outside wall of Greg's house and leaning there, against his good shoulder. "Thank you for listening to me," he said. "I know it can't be especially nice for you, considering how much you... dislike shifters."

"Its alright, friends are friends, we listen, whether we like it or not." Greg then stepped into his house and got his wallet, he decided to pick up another gun later. He walked back out after a short while, "Okay, let's go."
