"Yes, sir," Dante said. "It sounded like a little girl. She's to the south of us. Hopefully she'll follow your voice." Dante smiled and nodded at Greg's suggestion. He was secretly very happy that Greg had considered this idea. Even pretending to be Greg's son, or nephew, or whichever role he assumed was an honor to him almost as great as the true title.

"Alright then, when do you want to head out, and when we do, we'll need to stop by my house so we can get some cash." Greg was also thinking about picking up some more of his weapons, he had a few back at his house, and all of this shifter activity was making him nervous.

"Anytime is fine," Dante said. "I'd rather not wait around here for too long; it'll get dark soon and I don't want to be wandering around all injured and bloody in the forest at night." He made another effort to pick himself up and get to his feet, which seemed to be working better now than it had before.

"All right, we go now, but on the way, do you mind if I ask you a few questions?" Greg had never had an opportunity like this before, whenever he had been this close to a shifter, he had killed them. This was different though, Dante wasn't like the rest of them, he could ask Dante for information so that the shifters might be an easier enemy to fight in the future.

Dante looked at Greg with a slightly startled expression. He thought he had told Greg all he needed to know about himself, but maybe not. Or maybe the questions were about something else. "No sir," he said, "Not at all." He crossed the small, one room cabin to a hook by the door where a large flannel jacket hung, and used his good hand to drape it over his shoulders as best he could.

"I've never really known what it was to be a shifter, like what does the world smell and look like? Is it different for shifters of different kinds of animals?" Greg waited by the door for Dante.

"Well, sir, I don't know how I can explain it to you. I've never been anything but what I am, so I have nothing to compare it to." Dante managed to get the jacket around the arm with the gunshot wound, hiding it. He slipped his other arm through the sleeve and went to join Greg at the door.

"True, that would make sense." Greg said, "Oh well, i guess it's off we go, would you be willing to tell me about your family?"

"Sure," Dante said. "Hmm... where to start...? Well, I actually grew up on the east coast. My parents live in North Carolina. They're both shifters, so they were more than a little disappointed when I ended up not being able to change form at all."

"Oh, that's rough. I'm sorry that it worked out like that. So, how'd you end up here in Colorado?"
