When the flight was over, Karya hopped out of the plane and grabbed her bag and guitar from the pilot with a polite thank you, waiting for Kimira to get out. After 3 minutes of waiting she said exasperatedly, “What are you waiting for? The plane to take off again? If you don’t hurry up, I’m going to leave without you.” She responded to that quickly and jumped out, grabbing both of her suitcases. Karya rolled her eyes. Both of the girls had small suitcases for sheet music and at least one larger one for clothing and other things. But why on earth did Kimira have a small one for sheet music and 2 larger ones if she couldn’t take a musical instrument with her? Ugh, why would someone who had two hours to pack have so much stuff!?
Karya stepped away from the airport with another thank you over her shoulder to the pilot. A couple taxies went past and she knew how to get one. She had been to San Francisco, Los Angeles, and to New York before with her mom. One more thing that Kimira didn’t know how to do and Karya did. Did the list ever end? She stepped out to the street, getting the cab driver’s attention by putting money in her hand. The taxi stopped on the side of the road and Karya put her stuff in the back, loading Kimira’s stuff in as well. It barely fit everything. Karya glared at her sister as she shut the trunk and jumped in the back seat. “Can we get a ride to Kangen Academy?”
The cab driver groaned, “But that’s way out on the other side of-“
Karya cut him off with three words, “I’ll pay extra.” And he took off down the street. It was a big place, with huge buildings and, quite frequently, traffic jams.
Kimira looked out the window at the passing lights and skyscrapers. She’d refused to go when her sister and mother went and had missed out on quite a few things because of her separation anxiety from their house. She almost didn’t come here. But now that she was here, going home was almost scary. Karya had pointed out a couple of things that Kimira hadn’t even thought of a couple hours ago before they left; she’d forgotten to get money and didn’t what she was going to do now when she had to take care of herself for a change. She knew from Karya’s tone that she wasn’t going to get help from her and now was thinking about how much trouble she would get in. Her dad had said that he would buy her a new piano or get the old one shipped there after they got settled in; she supposed she could ask for something then, but was going to be in trouble until it got there.
Suddenly the car stopped and both girls were woken out of their reverie. “Money?” the cab driver said.
Karya smiled, getting out of the cab. “Not until I get my bags. I’ve had people drive off with them before and there is no way that’s happening again.” She grabbed her things, Kimira taking her time getting hers, and gave the driver $10 and saying, “Thanks, have a nice day,” before he drove off.
Mr. Eden walked through the halls, paging through his file folder and skimming over the names of the new students. He had been teaching a while and when he heard about the opening of the new private school he jumped at the chance to work there. It wasn’t that he didn’t like the old school he was working at, but he just wanted a change in pace and really wanted to help many people enjoy the music of teenagers. That’s why he had learned all about the recording studio and could help them learn how to use it as well. This way they could record their own music and people all over the world could listen to it.

The list went on and there were about 20 names on it. He knew the school was new and wasn’t sure how many students he would have, but closed the file and went into the teacher’s lounge to get something to drink. Today would probably be a long day.
