Quinton smiled and wrapped his arms around her waist, continuing the kiss.
Bran smirked at the sound of Leona’s stomach, but said nothing. He led her down a wide path to the largest of the few small houses. He opened the door and motioned her inside saying with a smile, “Home sweet home. The kitchen’s through there,” he pointed to an opening across the living room.
Æsc sighed, he’d known the question was coming so he’d prepared for it. “When I was--no” he stopped, deciding that wasn’t were to start it. “There are two things that can send me into one of my bloodlust . .” he searched for the right word and finished lamely, “episodes. One is the scent or taste of fresh human blood, and it doesn’t have to be fresh if I’m in a weakened stated of mind or body. The other is an extreme amount of emotion at one time, usually rage and grief together. The first time this happened was when my mother brought a human home for dinner, it was supposed to be my first human meal, I was four then and Bran easily stopped me, although he accidentally gave me this,” he ran his thumb down the scar over his left eye, “in the process. Well, somehow Lamia found out about it and she wanted me because of it, she thought she could teach me to control it and use me. When I was five she came for me, but my mother stopped her. She,” he sighed and looked at the floor, “she died in the process but was able to injure Lamia enough for her to back off. But not forever. She returned for me a few years later, I don’t know why she waited that long, but I was thirteen when I met her for the first time. Until then though I’d never known what happened to my mother, she’d just vanished, but when I rejected Lamia’s proposal she made sure to let me know what had happened, she told me every detail of the--” he stopped his hands clinching to fists. He was silent for a moment before continuing, “And that sent me into my second bloodlust. I was near a small town at the time and I completely destroyed it and in the process a man tried to stop me and got killed for it, he was the healer's son . . . and my father.”
