Nene's movements had been too fast and too unexpected for him to pull away and as soon as her lips touched his, his shield shattered.
Every moment they'd spent together, from the first time she'd called his name from across the street, to the first time they touched, to when they kissed, the emotions of those moments flowing through him once more.
He was completely frozen for a moment but he started to move to respond to her like he used to, like he had so many times, but then her words rang through his mind, "You aren't good for me," and he stumbled backwards out of her grasp. He looked at her with wide, fearful eyes for a moment then spun and ran away.
Follow him, Ravyn sent her earnestly. She knew Nene'd broken through and had seen what had gone through his mind and knew that if she didn't follow him now there'd be no hope for the two of them again.

Nene: She trusted what Ravyn suggested do. she followed him. Her mind was still reeling from the kiss but realized that his face was actually portraying what he was feeling. Even though it was fear, it was still something.

Æsc had only run a short distance before he slowed to a stop. He leaned against a tree and slid to the ground, burying his head in his hands. He wanted it, wanted her, so bad, but couldn't help but be scared. He felt a few tears slip into his hands at the overload of emotions that he hadn't felt in what seemed like years.

Nene: She saw him crying and realized, this was the first time he had cried for as long as she had known him. "Æsc. I.. I know this is hard... You don't have to be scared of me, I promise not to hurt you anymore. I didn't mean to.." Her hands balled into fists.

Æsc didn't look at her, he drew his knees up a little bit and lean his elbows on them, taking in a deep, shuddering breath. "I just . . . I don't . . . I can't . . . " he couldn't find the words. He wanted to say something, but didn't know what it was he wanted to say.

Nene: Her gaze softened. "You're taking this to hard on yourself... I'm the one who should be feeling any pain or fear..."

He shook his head but still didn't look at her, couldn't. He wanted to feel her again, feel her arms around him as she kept him safe once more. He was quiet a moment before he whispered something almost inaudible, "I need you so much."

Æsc finally look up at her, not sure if he believed her or not, but then suddenly he didn't care as he reached out and grabbed her wrist then pulled her down to him before wrapping his arms around her and holding her tightly.
