Aeryn
"Well, it appears that at least those
wolves could take a hint," Aeryn sighed, glancing toward the direction the puppy love-struck females had tucked their tails and scurried away. "As for the hikers..." Aeryn didn't need to continue, for the girls were literally drooling over Chris from the sanctuary of trees nearby.
Funny, they produce even more saliva than the wolves did, Aeryn thought, shuddering in disgust of how cretinous they looked goggling over the wolf man. She could practically see their eyes change to infatuated heart gazes, such as what occurs in cartoons. She grimaced, almost vomiting at the mere thought of their dottiness.
Why were they so freaking entranced by this guy anyways? He was just an unclothed human with his, er,
nether regions covered by a leaf. Aeryn's gaze traveled to Chris's location on the ground. He looked so very ridiculous--what could they possibly see in him? He looked like some caveman wannabe, displaying
waaaaaay too much of his legs, his perfect legs. And those abs! Without his jacket, Aeryn could admire each and every one of those abdominal muscles. Carved to perfection, they were. Every inch of the young, beautiful man's skin glistened under Heaven's teardrops.
Caught up in the physical perfection of that man, captivated by the loveliness of his mysterious song, Aeryn almost didn't notice the hiker girls stripping down and strutting toward Chris.
Oh, so they were
serious when they were yapping about joining him in his nudity. Aeryn clenched her teeth against each other until they ached.
Why am I not
surprised?Seething, the hooded girl of the storms swiftly used her powers to summon lightning bolts, blocking their path to Chris. She placed them in just the right location as to avoid killing them, but close enough to give them quite a fright. A nice singe of their hair was an added bonus, although Aeryn had to admit she witnessed the frying of hair in some areas she would have preferred not to have seen.
"
That should teach them not to hang out in a forest during a thunderstorm," Aeryn said, turning to Chris. "Don't they know that lightning is attracted to tall objects such as trees?" Oh, she knew how hypocritical she must have sounded, for they we're in the forest as well. Yet, under the trees that would normally bring death, Aeryn, with her weather powers, would ensure the protection of both herself and Chris. Yes, she would keep him safe.
"That song," she breathed as she sat beside him. "That song. What is that song you were singing?" Aeryn desperately wished to remove her jacket, in which she always hid herself, and drape it around Chris. It was September in the middle region of California. To make matters worse, they were located by the Pacific Ocean, which brought much more wind than further inland. And the rain. California rain was very cold, so very cold, the kind of chill that pierces your skin. Aeryn couldn't even halt the storm at the moment because she was still distraught. Yes, she wanted nothing more than to wrap her jacket around him, to provide some kind of protection against the elements. But alas, she could not reveal herself, her appearance. Not to him. And
especially not to
her.Lyric
"Why are you covering your mouth like that?" Inquired the angel girl with the immense powers. Her nose twitched with undeniable curiosity, but even that couldn't mask the flicker of fear that grazed her gaze.
"No reason!" I responded hastily with this flat-out lie. I was trying my best to be inconspicuous, but I knew I failed miserably. Oh well, I wouldn't leave her any time for questions! "See ya--gotta run to class!" I hollered to her as I barreled away.
I dashed across the breath-taking, mountainous landscape in which Marigold High School was perched upon, like a beacon atop a lighthouse. I had taken this school for granted ever since I arrived here yesterday, with its dense forests, lush gardens, ingenious architecture, the beach...
It is
quite beautiful, I thought as I continued to increase the distance between that country twang girl and I. I had never in my entire life encountered a person who sounded even
remotely like her. I wouldn't admit this to anyone, but the truth was, she kind of
scared me. I couldn't exactly pinpoint why--she just seemed intimidating with that strong accent of hers. Not to mention she also wiped out eight dummies in a single class period, while I couldn't even hack through
one with my newly-discovered water-bending skills. Of course, that would have been a different story if my tiger side had total control...
Which was exactly why I had to get the heck out of there. The golden tigress that happened to basically hijack my physical being (and my mental one at that) from time to time could prove to be a bit, well,
uncontrollable... at best. Especially with my tiger side's new preference for dragon blood, I decided it was best to leave my previous class as soon as possible.
Soon, the cerulean sky with innocent white, cottony clouds gave way to a complete and utter
storm--for about the millionth time in the past two days. By the time I rounded the facade of the school, it was shaping up to mirror the devasting storm that ruined my day more than twenty-four hours ago.
Stupid storms! The weather better
be nothing but crisp, blue skies during our beach trip this weekend! I don't even want a single, stinking clou--!BAM! I was so consumed with my thoughts that I didn't notice the boy sprinting for all he was worth toward the front of the building, not until body-slammed him, that was.
"I'm terribly sorry!" I apologized, flustered. "I--I wasn't awar--"
Black hair that made the night look white in comparison. Eyes ablaze with an intense red. Those red eyes could say many things. I knew this, for they had spoken to me long ago. I saw them in those alleyways we usually avoided, and then at my previous high school. My "friends" hadn't even turned his way, continuing to exist in their ignorance. Justin hadn't even noticed. But I did. I had this feeling that he was
different. Different like I was. And now, standing in front of Marigold High (well, more like
laying, since the impact had knocked us to the ground) my intuition was confirmed.
