((Yeah, I was going to have Charlie come into the cafe and offer a job to someone. Or I could have Gabriel want someone to perform inception on his parents, since they're both pretty influential people.))

{ I was going to suggest that some-one crashed into the café, looking for one of the characters. The other characters step in and stop the attack and they all sort of know each other that way? Just a thought }

((OK, I'm kind of combining my two ideas. Gabriel has contacted Charlie about performing inception, and Charlie is seeking out a team))

Charlie paused when he reached a small cafe, wrapping his coat around them for as a slight defense against the cold. He peered in through the rain-slicked window, though he already knew that the person he was seeking was inside. His mind was drawn back to a particular phone conversation, several days ago now...

~~~
Charlie jumped in surprise when he mobile began ringing, the noise penetrating the silence of his room. He stared at the small object for a moment, unsure whether to answer it or not. As far as he knew, everyone who knew his mobile number was either dead or... no, in fact, they were all dead. Making up his mind, Charlie picked up the phone and held it to his ear.
"Hello, Mr Gallagher."
"Who is this?"
"I have a proposition for you."
"How did you get this number?"
"That isn't important. What is important is that I know what you are, Mr Gallagher, and what you do."
Charlie's face lost all color, his eyes going wide. "How-"
"Don't ask questions that you know won't be answered."
"What do you want, then? What's your 'proposition'."
"Inception, Mr Gallagher."
"... It's not possible."
"I know it's possible, Mr Gallagher. I also know you've done it."
"Maybe I did, but it was unsuccessful; the idea didn't take."
"But it is possible. I am a very rich man, Mr Gallagher, I can offer all the money you'll ever need. Perform Inception and you'll never have to work again."
Charlie paused, considering the offer; he hadn't worked in months, his supplies of money were starting to run dry. The offer was incredibly tempting, money aside. The possibility of inception had always fascinated him, and the chance to try it again, to maybe make it successful...
"I'll do it."
~~~

After that, the man had given Charlie details of the target, an important businessman by the name of Samuel Quint, and where he could be found. He'd given him the combination to a bank account that would contain all the money he would need for the operation and, of course, the idea. Now all Charlie had to do was set up a team capable of performing the task.

Entering the cafe, Charlie scanned the occupants for the one he was looking for. He spotted her and made his way over to the booth she was sitting in, sitting down opposite her.

"Erin Tikera." he said, leaning across the table. He'd heard of this girl from one of his previous contacts. It had taken a while to find her, but Charlie could find anyone once he set his mind to it.

{Ooh. Good post. xD}

Echo

Echo did a silent exhale and did her best to turn around fearlessly. "How did you know my name?" Echo asked quietly, discreetly stuffing her totem in her pocket. This moment was all too real. Things were happening to her, right at this moment. She had somehow allowed herself to trust someone how somehow knew her name. This of all things was the most out of character. Echo kept a straight face with all of this going on, though.

The dim lights of the coffee shop paired with the deep rosewood floor pretty nicely, giving the room a bit of a more sinister feeling, somehow. However, it was completely off topic. However, this is what Echo wanted to do. Echo couldn't believe that this wasn't a dream. The ball in her pocket wasn't spinning. The world around her wasn't at all strange; in fact, it was all too real. Was he working for the government? Did he . . . was he. . . ? The questions spun in Echo's head as she waited on the reply that might just complicate her day.

Echo's heart slammed relentlessly on her chest. Whump, whump, whump. She began to wonder how the guy in front of her didn't seem to hear it. But that was all in her head. Your heart is actually very quiet, its your blood flow that speeds up to your brain that you hear going past your ear drums. Echo thought. That was what she did to keep herself from being nervous: she thought of random facts, random details that were happening around her. And that was why she was a great extractor. Both facts and details were everything.

Inception. She had done it successfully twice, which was the reason for her wealth. She had also successfully done simple extractions, which for some reason paid a lot and the results could normally be found in newspapers the next day. It was a dangerous, impossibly complicated job, but Echo had mastered it, and it had mastered her. It was a sort of unmistakably perfect balance. And all of this was the reason for her current life.

After all those thoughts, Echo dragged herself back to the present. Although it had seemed like an eternity waiting, it had only really been a few moments. And this was when Echo waited.

✠ кαяєη ✠

Karen took in her own reflection in the window with sombre eyes. A tall girl, all legs, with bright orange hair. A round, celtic face. Twin dark brown, fox like eyes, twinkling with intelligence and cunning. Alabaster skin with a sprinkling of golden freckles. Her appearance held a strange allure. Silver and gold, twined so tightly together that it became hard to tell the difference.

She sighed and turned her face sharply away from the window. That was her alright. There was no trace of the small, feral girl she had once been. That child was gone, erased. She no longer existed. That was a world she had left behind, and had no wish to revisit. She was sure of that…wasn't she? She knew she didn't want that life. She clenched her jaw stubbornly. I do not want to go back, she thought angrily to herself, shaking off her thoughts by listening to the other conversations happening in the café

Suddenly, Karen tensed, her eyes widening as she heard the words of the man behind her. Erin Tikera, she thought, her eyes narrowing slightly. In the small world of the rogue extractors, word got around quickly. Every-one had heard of every-one. It was as simple as that. It took a feat of will power not to turn and stare at the couple so Karen settled for watching the two in the window. She leant back in her seat and took another sip of her coffee.

Charlie gave a little half-smile, no real emotion behind it.
"I have my methods." he replied "Your name is pretty well known, though you were surprisingly hard to find." He linked his fingers together where they were resting on the table.

"I have a job offer for you." he said "And considering the state of the current... economy, you can't really turn me down." It was getting harder and harder for extractors to do their job; the government was closing in. That was the other reason this operation was so important. Performing inception on a powerful man like Samuel Quint could turn the tide. Ideas are infectious; if they could plant it in one man, it would spread like wildfire.

"Inception." It was amazing how much power that one word could have. It was the ultimate goal for any extractor. If one could perform Inception, they had access to unlimited power. Ideas could be the most deadly thing in the world if used correctly; control ideas, and you could do anything.

Echo

Ah, yet another unexpected job offer. Even just one more dollar could be another dollar closer towards her research fund. Her parents murder was everything. . . but so was Inception. "Well known, hm? I wasn't aware," Echo murmured. "Well, I guess that you have my undivided attention, then." Echo said. She looked firmly over the guy in front of her. He was clearly an extractor like her. This might be a little something for her to think about tonight. She'd hope to meet him in a dream, too. A perfect little world, unshatterable unless you let it. A place where the amount of peace and war was your decision. This was another reason why Echo both enjoyed and pursued extractions and extracting.

Echo let the demeanor of the guy sink in. He was utterly calm and emotionless. This was clearly a big job. She let the surroundings of the coffee shop sink in as well, and the atmosphere added to the moment. Echo sipped her cappuccino nonchalantly as she waited for the response.

Echo had been nervous before, but she wasn't now. She had gotten used to hearing her name, then people asking for extractions. She'd always be nervous at first. But then she remembered that she was an extractor; she could always get revenge later if she needed to. Another reason to love being an extractor: Echo knew that if she caught the man who had killed her parents, revenge was the single only fair option.
