A Forgotten Dream [1x1]

Tori sighed and looked down at her shirt, "Well, it was lunch. Yeah. You know how messy i get when I eat. I was opening the ketchup packet when it exploded all over my shirt. It was quite embarrassing actually and you would've been laughing at me if you were there." she smiled and laughed a little. She learned to hide things and lie perfectly without others noticing it, but Lucas was different. Somehow he still manages to see past her lie, which she really liked. But right now, she hopes that he's too weak to notice. She didn't want him worried.

The doctor entered and began to observe a few things as he wrote some notes on his clipboard. "You seem well, your dinner will be here soon. Oh, and visiting hours is almost up." he walked out of the room and closed the door behind him.

"I guess I should get going then." Tori looked down as she got up and picked up her bag. She hated leaving and somehow she just wishes she could stay here. It's not like there was someone waiting at home for her anyways. At least here she had someone, but it was time for her to go. It was a Friday so tomorrow she could come earlier. "Goodnight, Sleep well okay?" she gave him a light hug as she walked away.

Even though Lucas didn't believe her, he didn't want to argue with her. When she gave him a hug, he wrapped both arms around her and held her tightly for a moment before finally letting her go. Tori was his only support system at this point, and he wanted to spend as much time with her as possible. "Bye, kiddo," he said, his voice panged with sadness. The doctor looked up at him when she left the room, and he lifted the sheet to see his broken leg. It was red, and had 4 lines of stitches, marking where they went in to fix it forever.

"When will I be able to take it out of this brace?" Lucas asked Dr Morrison, his back uncomfortable from laying on it for so long. This was the longest he had been inactive, and it was getting on his nerves.

"Oh, two weeks tops," the doctor said before walking over to the morphine drip. "Rate your pain, on a scale of one to ten."

"Uh, three?" Lucas said, not really sure of what to say.

"Okay, I'm going to cut the drip slightly over the next few hours. Let me know if the pain gets unbearable." Dr. Morrison said.

"Thanks," said Lucas. An orderly walked in with his tray of dinner, including a chicken breast, some pasta and a side salad. He munched on the salad first while flicking through the TV. He decided on the news channel and saw a story on a shooting in the inner city, and then a story about some sort of budget cut. He rolled his eyes as he moved to the pasta, taking a sip of the diet clear soda they had given him.

Tori started her car and began to drive back home. She turned the radio on to keep herself company. Moments later she reached her house. She took her keys and opened the house door. A butler and a maid greeted her but she didn't bother saying anything. She jogged up the stairs and went into her room. She changed into some pajamas and placed her phone under her pillow just in case Lucas texted or called her. She closed her eyes and slowly fell asleep

Lucas finished up his dinner and wondered if anyone at school cared about him other than Tori. Joy came back in an hour later and took the tray, taking his morphine down a notch again. He could now feel a slight twing of pain in his leg every now and then but nothing he couldn't handle. After Joy turned the lights off, he tried to become as comfortable as possible, finally drifting off to sleep.

The birds awoke him early the next morning, and he grabbed his phone and sent a text to Tori.

'Good morning kiddo, have a great day at school. (:'

He smiled as he put his phone back down, thinking of when him and Tori first met. He was older than her but only be two weeks, so he loved to tease her by calling her 'kiddo'. Ever since then, the nickname kind of stuck. He turned on the TV, finding some kids shows and left them on the TV. It was more interesting then the news, anyway.

Tori smiled at Lucas' text and headed off to school.

The final bell rang and Tori exited the classroom. She managed to reach the parking lot safely, but that's when she saw Sandra. She walked over to Tori and pushed her really hard on the ground and smiled, "Oops, didn't see you there." she laughed and walked off.

Tori went inside her car and looked at the mirror. She saw a scratch on her cheek and her knees were badly scrapped. She had a feeling it was a bad day to wear a skirt, but she shrugged it off. She pulled out two band aids from her bag and placed one on her cheek and the other on her knees. Then she drove off to the hospital.

She knocked on Lucas' door and entered with a smile. "Hey how are you? Everyone was askin for you and they hope for you to have a speedy recovery." she sat down beside his bed and looked at the television.

Lucas smiled as Tori walked in, pushing a button to sit his bed up. His eyes glimmered a little and he smiled at what she said about the rest of the school. "I got a text from Max today, said the team practices weren't as fun with out me. Yeah, I doubt." he said, jokingly. He noticed the band aid on her face and wanted nothing but the truth. "What happened? I know you were lying yesterday, don't do it again." he said sternly as he pointed a finger at her accusingly, half kidding with the finger.

The one thing he hated most about not being in school was not being there to help Tori. He was able to walk her to class and to the car, keeping an eye out for Sandra and the rest of her clique. Looking back up to her, he awaited an answer.

Tori smiled and laughed lightly at his joke. Then he mentioned her band aids. She shook her head an smiled, "You over think too much. I just tell during gym. We had to run on the track and I missteped on a rock and fell. It's nothing big, just me being clumsy." her smile was weak and unrealistic, but sue tried her best to hidethe pain away from Lucas. All he needed to worry about was himself. No one else. She just wishes there was sinfully more she could do for him.

"So when could you get off this bed?" she asked trying to hange the subject and the mood Of the moment.

Lucas rolled his eyes at her excuse, knowing it wasn't true. He shrugged at her next question, then pressed his nurse button on his little remote. He could do everything with that little contraption, and moments later a nurse walked it. "Whaddaya want?" she asked, placing her hands on her hips.

"I want to get out of bed." he said with a smile.

"Fine." the plump nurse said as she called out the door. "Kim! Bring me a wheelchair and assist me."

Lucas smiled again as the two nurses helped him out of bed, keeping his leg straight. He looked ridiculous in his hospital gown, but wanted to get out of the boring room. "Tori, would you mind taking me on a tour of this fine establishment?" he asked, chuckling.

Tori smiled at him ordering the nurses around nodded, "I would love to. I noticed they have a courtyard here, would you like to go there?" she smiled and went behind the wheelchair. She slowly navigated him out of the room and into the hall. She headed for the elevator and pressed the button to go down. The doors open and she pushed Lucas in with her. She waitedfor t to reach the lower level and then they exited.

She noticed the signs pointing to the courtyard and Tori followed them. They arrived at the courtyard where a big old oak tree stood in the middle and countless flowers blossomed all around. It was sunset so the hues of the sky were orange. Tori placed his wheel chair under the oak tree as she went and picked up a rose and jogged back to Lucas.

"Isn't it beautiful?" she smiled, as she closed her eyes and smelled the flower. Her heart was pounding and she felt lucky to be with Lucas. She was the only girl that could spend time with him like this and it made her the happiest. Though she had to hide her true feelings towards him, she was quite content with just beig around him all the time.
