Aer felt himself warm under all of their gazes, but his expression didn't change, nor did his posture. He walked confidently, like he usually did. The only difference now was that people actually took the time to look at him. It was a different sensation... He had always expected to hate being noticed, but it didn't seem to bother him in the slightest as he forced a smile, glancing at all of the popular girls that had shunned him only a few days ago. They were looking at him in awe, and he wasn't sure if they knew who he was. Not really caring, he approached his locker, releasing Tori's hand to put his bag inside. He was about to make a comment on how awkward this all was, but his voice was cut off as he slammed the door, seeing a girl with a large grin on her face.
"Uh... hi, Jennifer." He knew the girl from Chemistry class; she sat behind him, and she copied his work. This never bothered him, judging that a few years back he had had a large crush on her. The affection had been forced down that day that he had asked her to the dance, only to have her laugh in his face, calling him a variation of rude words such as nerd, geek, and stupid. He had argued that he was obviously not stupid in her eyes if she cheated on his work, but she had just left. It was surprising to him that she was standing there now, grinning at him in awe.
"Aer? Is that you?" Her voice was prissy and high-pitched as she leaned her shoulder against the locker, obviously striking a pose for him. Awkwardly he looked away, and she raised an eyebrow. "But I could hardly recognize you with the new look!" She laughed, elbowing him in the arm as she flirtily batted her eyelashes.
"Yeah.. well it's still the same old me," Aer said, an indifferent expression on his face as he crossed his arms, imitating the pose that most of the "cool" kids at the school did. He imitated them perfectly, looking exactly as they did. Perhaps even better than they. "Just as nerdy as ever," he added, knowing that she would remember the times she had called him that.
She looked surprised, though impressed. "I never noticed how handsome you were," she said slowly, winking. She didn't so much as even look at Tori this whole time. Behind her, her group of friends giggled, grouped together as they whispered about how handsome Aer was.
