Your characters who were human can transform from mermaids/mermen back into humans (born mermaids/mermen can also do that), and have cool outfits and in that way their strongest. That is called Atlantis Change. (Humans can breathe and talk in the mermaid kingdom whether they have tails or not. And all mermaids/mermen have a pearl, diamond, or another gem that helps them change. It can be on or in a necklace, bracelet, or ring. And some have wings.
Any merfolk(human or born mermaid) who does the Atlantis Change gets their power(s) upgraded and change from merfolk to humans who can still breathe. Their gems turn into the persons favorite instrument or a mic and they can use them to fight back if attacked. It's stronger when the person plays their favorite song on the instrument and ect. (I got this idea from an anime show called Mermaid Melody. Never watched it for it's in Japonese but I read about on the internet)
All mermaids/mermen/ect have magic powers, but you don’t have to have control over water or ect as one of them. You can have an element like fire, or like you can control plants. Just don’t go overboard. Three powers are the minimum for now.
Born mermaids/mermen are better at swimming and know the sea kingdom very well. But they are easier changed by the fog and if the fog touches them and they get sick it’s more serous. But when they Atlantis Change, their mostly stronger then the human/mermaids.
Mermaids and mermen can understand animals talk. If you rp with your animal enough, it can mermaid change like the mermaids themselves.
