Charlie had heard them from a mile away. She had watched as the distressed girl and her boyfriend had pulled up and went into the house. She had seen what was in the bag she was carrying. Pregnancy tests. She had been tempted to call out ''Dude, this is what condoms are for!" but thought better of it.
Then, screaming. (big sis to the rescue) Not too far away. Something about 'morons, help me' It sounded like it was coming from the lake. With the thought of what the man said about danger and senses fully on alert, she ran. The lake was still. If the kid had fallen in...
Charlie dived into the water. She saw her, there. That d@mn deaf girl, caught by her shoelaces. Charlie almost causally swam down lower, untied the shoes and pulled them off of her feet. She grabbed her around her waist and hauled her to the surface. Onto the bank. She was breathing. She coughed.
"Don't you know not to swim with shoes on?" Charlie asked sarcastically, pulling a stick from her hair. "Gosh, I knew you were dingy, but I didn't know you were a complete ditz."
The girl, Charlie never got her name, shook her head, and muttered, "Here. I think they're here."
"Who is here?" Charlie asked, but even then, she could feel it. Something tingling in her fingertips.

Annie looked up and saw the image of the girl she had talked with before. "They're here." Annie repeated.
Then Annie got up, and coughed a bit. She looked back down at the girl. "I'm going to my room, you people really trying to drowned a deaf girl? YOU'RE ALL PSYCHO!" Annie left to the Academy, and walked into the lobby. Nobody was there. And then Annie felt it. Where was her hat? Had it sunk? Oh, dear. Oh dear. Annie walked to her room, her clothes making a wet rubbing together sound as she walked. The D*** girl had took her shoes and lost her hat! Annie walked down the hallway, until she came to her room. She kicked the door open to see another girl sitting in the corner. "Who the heck are you?" Annie snapped. And then she realized. It was the girl who had asked her where her room was. The girl shrugged, and tossed Annie something. Annie caught it with both of her wet hands. Her hearing aid. Annie scowled at the girl who chuckled. Annie threw the hearing aid over on her bed, and went back outside.

The girl had left her alone. Alone was okay, she was used to it. But she wasn't really alone, was she?
"Okay, enough of this. Come out and I promise I won't beat you to a pulp." Charlie knew she couldn't keep that promise. Then, movement behind her. There was more than one.
She whipped around, just a flash of black. She now knew one thing: they were quick. What weapons did they have? Guns, probably. She doubted they'd be stupid enough to fight her without some form of protection. Rock crunching underfoot behind her. Close, too close. She lashed out with her foot and caught the same dumb deaf chick in the thigh. She fell over quickly and yelled many foul words at Charlie. "Sorry, thought you were the boogie man." she said causally, adrenalin pumping. "Hey, since we keep runnin' into each other, my name's Charlie."

[Stiles]

Annie fell onto her back. Ow. Yes, it hurt. She was laying on a sharp rock. It felt as if she was hit by a truck. All the wind knocked out of her. Now, of course, she was yelling a few four letter words. Duh. "WHY'D YOU DO THAT?" Annie snapped at the girl. She relented a little. "Name's Annie, you psycho."

Charlie nodded. "Good that."
A twig snapped in the forest near the lake's bank.
"Say, how good are you in a fight, Annie?"

[Stiles]

Annie really didn't understand what she said, she only lip-read the last word, "Fight."
No... She wasn't this person. Yes, good. Her hat was gone.
Then she saw it bob up in the lake, facing her.
Great...
She reached out to the lake, and grabbed the wet... no, more than wet, hat.
"Uh... I'm alright, I guess." and when she said this, she thought of those lips... gone. No, she was better than alright.
She rung the hat out, and flopped it onto her head.
"Uh, Charlie?"

Charlie was glancing around, anxiously. "Hmm? What is it?"

[Stiles]

"Well... see, the reason why I came here was two things." Annie said, looking down.
"One... Well, I have this super-cool, but in a way freaky-scary power. I can hear people's thoughts and do... well, um.. telepathy with people I allow."
Annie looked over to see Charlie's face which she expected to be shock, but it was just the opposite.
"And... well, I kind of, well, almost killed somebody before."

Charlie had expected the girl to be a freak. She hadn't expected the fact that she had nearly killed someone. But, that was good for the moment. It meant she knew how to break a couple bones, at least.
"Interesting. I killed my father and hacked him to bits with a meat cleaver and was sent to the psych ward for a year until my trail went through and they sent me to a super-max prison for first degree murder." Charlie lied perfectly and smiled.
