Cassie shifted to speak, but found herself trapped between his arms and his chest. She looked upon the ground to keep the beginning of a blush hidden, "Oh..." Then she asked since Ryan was a shapeshifter, "So the shapeshifters were in it? Fighting against the humans." She tried to think back to when she waws little all she could remember was her mother dissapearing and her brother's death... She mentally shook her head, ridding herself of the memories as she asked after some silence, "How did you become a vampire?" She knew nothing about vampires, and hoping this subject was better than the last...

"Well, there was this dog, on my seventeenth birthday, ang he bit me in the neck. I felt really tired and a few days later, I killed a bird and sucked its blood. It felt as if some instinct had taken over, forcing me to do it. I asked my parents, and they kicked me out." Phoenix smiled sadly. "Ryan's dad took me in and taught me about my powers. How did you become a shifter? How did you discover it?"

Cassie leaned her head against his shoulder as she thought back, trying to remember how she discovered it. "My mom was a shapeshifter, when she married my father... well you know. Me and my older brother inherited her trait, but our father never knew she was a shapeshifter. When I was young, really little she abandoned us never telling us where she was going. She just up and ran leaving my older brother to protect me. From my dad." She stopped going silent for a moment before continueing, "One day I came home to my dad holding a shotgun to my brother's head... I watched him pull the trigger the last words my brother muttered were, 'Run.' Thats when my father turned to me, the smile of an insane drunk on his face as he said, 'You are just like your mother, Cassie. Thats why I will make you death as slow as possible, just like your mother did to me!'" She bit her lip to keep back the tears, "Thats when I found out I was a shapshifter..."

"Wow. I'm sorry if it's painful, I miss my parents even if they abandoned me. And Jack and Em, Ryan's dad and his girlfriend." Phoenix sighed, letting the tears fall. "At least I've got you guys." He turned and kissed Cassie, blushing.

Cassie almost pulled back in surprised. All her recent anger had faded like fog on a hot sunny day of July. Slowly she wrapped her arms around his neck pulling herself against him.

Phoenix hugged her close to him. He accidentally bit her lip, drawing blood. He pulled back in shock. "Cassie? I think I bit you."

Cassie sucked on her lip, then laughed lightly trying to bring humor to what could end up terrible, "And that is what I get for falling in love with a vampire." She wanted to slam her head against a tree, the words that came out of her mouth were meant to stay in her thoughts.

"Love you too, but let me take a look at it." Nix laughed, staring at her lip. "If you are turned, you'll start hallucinating, then going so crazy you won't know what's going on and might even call me a chair!"

Dear Aunt Gwyn,

I love it here! Everyone is really open-minded and accepting; So far nobody's judged anyone! We got four new kids today; Named Taylor, Alex, Phoenix and Ryan. Phoenix is nice enough- from what I've seen, he's the kind of no-nonsense, serious guy. Taylor, Alex and Ryan are hyper and crazy like me, though! Boy, this is going to be so much more fun now that there's more people, I just know it!

The weather's starting to clear up, so we can go swimming now. My housemate, Trinity, really likes to swim-I swear, it's like she lives in the water! Everyone here is pretty cool, all is going great. Hope you're doing well.

Jessie put down the pen, stuck a stamp on the envelope and wrinkled her nose at the gross taste. Jotting down the address, she slung a towel over her shoulder and sprinted downstairs; She'd mail it, then join the others on the beach.

"Done the letter!" She called to her friends as they splashed around in the water. She jugged over to the mailbox and tossed it in. Then she kicked her shoes off and jumped right in the lake.

"YEAH! BEACH PARTY!"

Cassie thought about for a moment then laughed, "I'll look out for hallucinations, craziness, and calling you a chair. Is that all, chair?"
