This skin
It strangles me
Leaving me an empty shell
Struggling to breathe
And hang on
To a life
I never knew
Black shifted from foot to foot, shifting the small black orb from hand to hand. Ever since the last meeting, he had become restless. His tongue flickered across his lips, moistening the cracked skin. The air was getting colder as winter approached, but the tree's leaves had not yet entirely fallen. He sighed and his breath misted in the air before him. He studied it, a deep sadness beginning to engulf him. How long had it been, since he had heard his own voice whisper a mere word?
He shook his head, clearing his thoughts. He shoved the sorrow away, angrily scuffing the dry earth with his black boot. It would do no good to dwell on the past. Instead, he concentrated on something else, allowing a small smile to flicker across his face. The other Demon hunter's had been so shocked, their mouth's had been hanging open, when they had seen what he had done. He flicked his hair slightly, watching the silvery white gleam in the fading sunlight. They had been horrified that he had let it grow and died it a snow white. But in truth, it fit him better than his brown hair.
He sighed once more, a habit that often got others umping to their feet in irritation. He gently put the black orb in his pocket, watching the brief flare of blue in it's center as it vanished from the sunlight into the darkness of his trench coat pocket. He moved forward, then froze, his nostrils flaring. There. He shifted his center of balance slightly, feeling the air push against his body. That smell. So familiar..... He leaped into the air, the air almost seeming to billow him up into the branches of an old oak as a silver flash whizzed right where he had been. He heard a high pitched laughter ring through the forest. He banged his fast on the trunk, trying to express his brief anger. "Oh calm down Black. I was only teasing you." The female voice cried. Then it revealed itself. It was a slim women who appeared to be in her late 20's. She had solid black hair that swept around a beautiful elfen face, sharp blue eyes gazing up at him with laughter.
Her name was Eina. She was not a Demon hunter, but rather, a simple human who knew about the world of the demons and chose to help the Demon Hunter's out in smaller things. like providing information on whereabouts or details on a new demon. Most didn't realize that Demon Hunter's were deeply indebted to these nosy humans. Although Black could do without them. They always seemed to think they were better than him at finding things out.
Black jumped down and roughly cuffed Eina on the side of the head, glaring at her with undisguised irritation. Eina followed after him, wincing from the blow, as he moved away, walking with a long stride through the woods. "Awww! Come on Black! I got some good information here!" Eina whined. Black clenched his teeth, but kept walking, not turning around. He felt a tug on his arm and he whirled on her, pointing at her furiously with his index finger. Eina pouted, jutting out her lower lip. "Your so mean. " She grumbled. he stared at her, watching her face for a few seconds, before doubling over with soundless laughter.
Anger flared on her face and she aimed a low kick to his face. He caught her boot, twisted her around, and slammed her into a tree, swiftly locking her arms behind her back. He tutted, shaking his finger at her. She pouted again, but when he released her, she remained still. "It's about a demon named Goed. He's supposedly been dealing with humans and it's not been pretty." She said, her voice low. Black listened for a few seconds, before shaking his head. He pointed to his temple. "You already know?!" Eina squeaked, disappointment flashing in her eyes. Black's lip twitched and he turned, walking away. "No fair!" Eina screeched, following after him.
Black felt a slight prickling irritation that she was still following him. But he pushed it away. humans were humans. He paused, considering that thought. Was he not a human himself? His tongue prickled, where the marking lay, and he angrily continued walking. Such thoughts would do him no good. They slowly arrived at the edge of the forest into a small clearing. Small simple ranch style houses lined the area and he pointed to the street that exited from the clearing, then pointed at Eina.
Eina sighed. "Fine. I'll go. But you better tell me when you need some help. or I'll come find you." She growled, raising her finger in warning. Black raised his hands in mock surrender and rolled his eyes. Eina grumbled a bit more, then broke off into a sprint, swiftly vanishing from sight as she rounded around the houses and disappeared. he sighed, rubbing his temples. They always seemed to find him, wherever he went. No matter how hard he tried to conceal himself. he sighed once more, grinning grimly, and started off walking down the street, his black trench coat flapping behind him as a small, but cold breeze picked up.
