Thank God, she thought. She glanced at Trinity, relief in her face. " He's alive," she breathed. "This means you can't pick at him for a while. Or at all. That would be preferred." Sitting on her haunches, she pulled a small dagger from her boot. Using it for leverage, she eased the arrow out as gently as she could manage, cringing every time she thought she would slip up.

Bear was unconscious, so he had no say in this matter. His breathing remained shallow. It would probably take a long time for him to awake, unless something magical were to happen.

Lucinda pulled off a layer of cloth she wore over her shirt and wadded it up, pressing it tightly against Bear's neck to help staunch the flow of blood. She rolled him onto his side in case the arrow had pierced his esophagus so he wouldn't choke on his own blood.

Bear squinted his eyes a little, but did not open them. What was this? Was he waking up? Lucinda's touch seemed to irritate him even in such a fatigued state.

((It would be boring if he slept for a billion pages, no?))

Lucinda peered down at him, her mouth pulling into a tiny smile.
"There you are," she said softly. "Thought we lost you for good." She brushed a strand of hair back from his sodden face and looked up at Alexis, relief in her eyes.

Alexis smiled and looked up at Lucinda "thanks" she lay her head on bear stomach as she closed her eyes.

Bear immediately winced in pain, and his legs twitched. He strange gurgle came from his throat, and his eyes squinted some more.

Alexis jumped up and put er hand on his forehead "bear?" she asked pulling her head back not sure if he was ok or not.

He seemed to relax once Alexis stopped laying her head against him. His chest and back were both very tender and did not sustain pressure well. His eyes were still twitching and squinting, like he wanted to open them but could not.
