This is a private roleplay between Cloudsong and I. Please, do not post here. You may read through the posts and follow along, if you'd like, but again: Don't post on this thread. Thanks! C:

The Characters:
Cloudsong:

Image

Name: Kurt Williams
Age: Eighteen
Personality: In an outsider's view, Kurt seems like a total popular jock; he plays volleyball, has lots of people who follow him around, and girls melt at the sight of him. Not many people know the things that he really enjoys doing. In fact, other than his parents, only one person really knew him; a girl that used to be his best friend when they were nine. She moved away, however, and after this big shocking depression, he just let people treat him as if he were popular.

Unlike the other popular kids, who are mean to everyone who isn't in their group, Kurt is a really sensible, and nice guy.

Appearance: He's a tall handsome guy with dark eyes, and dark brown hair.
Other: What he really loves is music; he writes his own songs, though no one has ever heard them. He plays guitar; something not many know.

Sєt.Mє.Frєє.:
Image
Name: Heidi Lynn Sanner
Age: Seventeen
Personality: Heidi has always been very self-consious about herself. From everything from her appearance to her personality, she feels something is wrong with her. Because of this, she tends to be a bit of a shy kid. She feels that if she gets to know someone, they will figure out her flaws and make fun of her. Although this is probably not true for most people, the few times that she has opened up to someone, she has gotten hurt. She doesn't plan on having that happen again.
Appearance: Heidi is about five foot five inches tall. She has pretty pale skin and a face filled with freckles. Her eyes are brown and in some lights, like bright sunlight, they turn hazel. Heidi's hair is of medium-length, is a sandy-brown color and is often tied into two pig-tails.

It was a clear, hot summer day; a perfect day for volleyball on the beach. A large group of cool looking teenagers were hanging out next to the nets in the sand, some drinking water, some leaning up against the poles that held up the net. Girls stood giggling on the sidelines, some chatting with guys, others just watching in awe. It was obviously a group of cool people. The game they had obviously planned out hadn't begun yet, and guys were still arriving, receiving high-fives from their team-mates.

When a dark-haired boy with handsome dark eyes came into view on the wooden board walk that led towards them, they all looked over, some calling out. "Kurt! Nice of you to stop by!" The girls that were dithering by the game all looked dreamy-eyed at the sight of him, and he smiled slightly.

He wore a dark blue, short-sleeved t-shirt with a few holes near the bottom. In his arms, he skillfully held a volley-ball, which he was turning restlessly over and over in his grasp. "Hey guys! Are we ready to start this game?" he said loudly. He approached the side where he would be playing on, and waited for the teams to arrange.

"Hey Kurt," a girl called out from close by. She had obviously straightened hair, and much make-up on; a typical popular girl that hung out with them. Kurt had never really particularly liked her, especially since she was known to pick on non-popular girls.

"..Hey Kelly," Kurt said, winking; the reaction all of them expected out of him. He hated pretending to be a flirt, because he really had no feelings for any of them. He turned away quickly, raising his hands and hit the ball across the net powerfully.

The game had begun.

The sound of a page turning and a small sigh went unheard through the shouts and laughter of the other teenagers. No one noticed a girl sitting under a tree, reading. Why would they? They were busy with their own lives, their cooler lives.
Heidi sat there in the sand, leaning against a low-hanging palm tree, with a book in her hand. An older-looking book with yellowing pages and bent corners, it had been a favorite of hers for years. Flipping to the next page, she placed a small piece of paper in between the two pages to remind her of where she left off, then set the book aside.
Her eyes shifted over to a group of teenagers that were crowded around the volleyball nets. A dark-haired boy had just walked up and many had shouted towards him. Heidi narrowed her eyes. Typical. Just another boy who thought he was cool, who everyone thought was cool. And who was she to say he wasn't?

Normally, she would have gotten up and left then. Heidi disliked staying around those types of people-the 'cool' types. But she couldn't. Not now, when they were about to start playing, for the only way to go to the rest of the beach was through the volleyball courts. Heidi sighed and shook her head, clearly irritated. She would just have to wait until they finished, or until they left.

Picking up her book once more, her eyes began to stray over the small black words. Words she had read many, many times. Heidi had soon slipped into the pages once more, tuning out everything else around her. However, when she suddenly felt something hit her leg-which had been outstretched-she looked up in surprise to see a lone volleyball sitting there. She looked up to see some of the teenagers looking at her expectantly. Instead of throwing it back, Heidi just sat there.. If they wanted it back, they could come get it.

(Awesome post! Your writing has improved a lot!! 8D *is proud of you* Lol x3 But seriously, your writing is really good. )

The game progressed for a few moments, before a guy on the other team shot it way out of bounds. "Points to us," Kurt said, grinning as he turned to see how far the ball had gone. When he saw a girl sitting next to the tree, with the ball by her foot, he tipped his head to one side. It was obvious that the girl didn't intend to throw it back, and he sighed in irritation, signaling to his friends that he would be back soon.

It didn't take him very long to reach her. As he leaned down to pick up the scuffed-up ball, he caught her eye, and stopped. Her appearance struck him as odd; she looked slightly similar to the girl he had been friends with when he had been younger; the only person he had ever really felt a friend-connection towards. "Hey... are you new around here?" he asked, finding it the only thing he could say. The sudden desire came to him to throw the ball back, and stay here came to him, but he knew it was impossible; gossip would start up, and people would come over and bother him. This girl was really pretty, but not the kind of pretty that he was used to; there was just something that was quite genuine about her that intrigued him.

(( D'aww, thanks! So has yours! :3 Remember when we did things like
Dawnymeowmeowkit: *walks up to other cat* Hi!
Haha, I don't think we were THAT bad, but still. That was such a long time ago! xD ))

One of them came over. One of those people, the people Heidi hated. She stared at him, but not in the way that most people probably did. He was handsome, Heidi would give this boy that. But she knew that he had probably heard that a thousand times, from many girls. No, she stared at him with cold, hard eyes. The gaze of someone who wasn't very trusting.

As he bent down to pick up the ball, he seemed to almost...hesitate. Why? Why didn't he just take his ball and leave. Go back to where he belonged, with those other people. Those people that Heidi would never trust, that she hated and was nothing like.
She studied him for only a moment, noticing how he was looking at her. Heidi opened her mouth to say something, to ask him to leave, when he spoke. Was she new around here? Had he really just asked that? Why should he care? Heidi found herself hesitating before answering. "Kind of. I used to live here a long time ago, but I moved away when I was little. Me and my family just moved back." Why was she telling him this? He didn't really care. None of those types of people did. Heidi would have just passed it off as flirting, but she knew someone like him would never flirt with someone like her. Cool people kept to themselves. That was how it worked.

(LOL We really sucked back then xD But it was fun <3)

Kurt watched her as she glared at him, wondering faintly why she appeared to be so hostile; most people worshiped the ground he walked on. It didn't bother him, though; it was actually refreshing to have someone that looked at him with neutral eyes. As he waited for her to reply, he fingered the scratch marks in the white plastic in the object he held. He watched her expectantly, not exactly sure why she was so interesting to him.

As she replied, he felt himself freeze. The ball he was holding in his hands slipped out, landing on the sand with a small thud. She had lived here before? Was it possible that-? No. He pushed the thought out of his mind. It was just a weird coincidence; it had to be. "Really? That's odd..." he muttered, half to himself. He leaned down to pick it up again, and glanced back at his friends, who were all turned to face him, questioning expressions etched on their face. Kurt grit his teeth together as the girl who had said hello to him earlier came walking up, straightening her skirt. He didn't move, just waited, daring her to say anything mean to this girl. Anything for a reason to stop playing and stay here. He knew that Kelly would probably say something offensive or rude, and if she did, he would have a perfect excuse to leave; being offended was a perfect way to leave any difficult situation.

When the girl reached them, she grinned at Kurt, not even bothering to look over at Heidi. "What's up? Why are you over here?" She crossed her arms, batting her eye-lashes slightly; eye-lashes that had false hairs attached to make them look better. Kurt suppressed the urge to roll his eyes.

"Getting the ball back," he replied easily. "I'll meet you back over there." His voice was hinting that she should leave.

Kelly took the hint, and glared jealously over at Heidi. "Who's she?" she hissed, pressing her glossy lips together as she waited for them to reply.

A frown was all Heidi gave him in reply, at first. Why should she even respond to that? And how was it odd? This boy was obviously just messing with her, probably getting ready to tease her or something. Heidi was used to it, though, so she simply waited for it to come. "How so?" she replied back, her voice icy and hard, just like her eyes as she glared at him. Heidi was not going to be one of those girls who followed him on her knees, waiting for him to just look at him. She probably should consider herself blessed that he had even looked at her, let alone spoke directly to her. As if.

Another one of them came up. What was this girl trying to pull off? The look of a clown? It seemed to Heidi that she had plastered about a ton of makeup onto her face. How could one deal with so much on? Heidi wore little to no make up and, when she did have it on, she disliked the feeling of it. Heidi narrowed her eyes into slits at the girl's words. Standing up and brushing the sand from her body, she picked up her book and tucked it under her arm. "I'm nobody, that's who," she spat before beginning to walk away.

Kurt inwardly scowled as Kelly addressed the girl harshly; a typically jealous response. Of course, she would be jealous, because she had liked him since the day they had met, in fifth grade. He felt his hands tighten on the ball as she offended her. Silently he stood there, watching as she walked off, book under her arm. For a moment he did nothing, unsure of what to do. He could either go back there, and pretend to be excited about the game that he really couldn't care less who would win. Or he could go after this girl that seemed so interesting, and who might have been that girl that he had been best friends with so long ago...

The decision was easy. Not caring what their reactions would be, he tossed the ball gently over to Kelly, who caught it clumsily. It was obvious she had never played any sports, because she dropped it, and checked to see if her manicure had been messed up. He wanted to roll his eyes, but he forced a cool smile that would calm her. "Here; you take my place on my team. I'm just gonna leave." There wasn't a question in his mind that she would pursue the subject, probably getting offended. He really didn't care anymore; after so many years of pretending, he was fed up.

"What do you mean? I don't play volleyball," Kelly argued, her gaze whipping up from her nails to watch him, heavily-painted eyes narrowing. "Besides... your team needs you to win! Are you really going to leave to hang out with a nerd?" She crossed her arms, a pouty look on her face. "Must I remind you that we just don't do that, Kurt." She meant that popular kids weren't to socialize with normal people.

Kurt shrugged. "Try to keep your hair on, `kay? I really am not about to have this conversation." Without waiting to see her offended look, he turned and jogged after Heidi.

"Kurt!" He could hear his team-mates all calling after him in disbelief. For a moment he turned back, and saluted goodbye to all of them, a cheeky grin on his face; he knew they wouldn't have the nerve to follow him. After all, he made the rules around there, being the 'coolest kid in school'. A title he hadn't chosen to have.

"Hey, you!" he called to Heidi, poking her gently in the arm, as he caught up, walking next to her. He ran a hand through his hair, feeling better than he had in a long time; a sensation he hadn't felt in a long time; freedom. For once, he was taking a stand to be someone he actually wanted to be.

Sand flew out from under Heidi's white and black flip-flops and she walked away from the two. Away from the group of teenagers who were so much 'cooler' than her. A scowl seemed to have been plastered on her face, much like the makeup had been plastered onto that girl's face. At the thought of the other girl, Heidi kicked at the sand beneath her feet in anger. Why did so many people have to be like that? Like that girl, like that boy, like all of them.

Behind her, Heidi heard the name 'Kurt' being called in protest. She didn't care enough to turn and find out what was happening behind her or who this 'Kurt' was. The only thing that Heidi cared about at the moment was getting away from all of them and finding a nice, quiet place to read. A place where there were no idiots.

Suddenly, she felt someone poking at her arm. Heidi spun around in surprise, her eyes widened, only to see the boy who had picked up the volleyball. What did he want, now? Hadn't he taken up enough of her time to ask her stupid questions?

"What do you want?" she muttered, clearly not happy to have him for company. Heidi looked away after a few moments, continuing to walk along the beach. Bits of sand had found their way onto her shoes-probably from kicking it-and it was scratching at hers toes and the bottoms of her feet. Heidi contemplated stopping and flicking the sand off of her shoes, but figured she could always do it later. Her mind was on this boy, at the moment. Why did he keep looking at her like that? And why wasn't he back there, with his friends?

Kurt hesitated as she asked the question. In reality, he wasn't sure what he wanted; there was just a part of him that knew that this girl was really... important. "Nothing," he said slowly. "I was just wondering if you'd like some..." His voice trailed off, and he blinked. "...company." Why did she seem so angry at all times? Irritated at the world... He wasn't used to being treated like this, and perhaps that was why he was so persistent to befriend her. There was also, of course, the fact that she looked and sounded like his old best friend. He knew that this had been so long ago, and he really should be over it, but... For many years, he had put her in the back of his mind, not wanting to be hurt again by thinking about her. Now, however, by seeing Heidi, he was reminded again.

"So why did you move away when you were younger?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. It was obvious that he was trying to start conversation with her, and he wondered if she would respond rudely, as she had before.
