- Falling silent, Shoto watched as Adrian began etching the symbols into the ice. He figured asking questions about what they were now wasn't something he should do, thus he kept his silence and let the older male continue his work. As he waited, his gaze eventually moved back to the fire that flickered before them. It was slowly beginning to die down from lack of new wood being added, but the teen couldn't be asked to fetch more. If they needed a light source once the fire died down, he could easily provide, albeit for only a bit of time. He couldn't imagine his body would take too kindly to him letting his flames burn for all too long without letting his temperature drop to avoid over heating or causing more burns to scar his body. The thought of such caused the boy to wrinkle his nose in annoyance before giving a small shake of his head to dismiss it. It wasn't that his current scar had even been cause directly by his quirk, but he knew if he let his flames get out of control they could make something akin to it.
He didn't fully snap from his thoughts until he heard Adrian finally speak up again. At the sound of his voice, Shoto's gaze returned and he gave a slow nod of his head. While he was keen on meeting with others all too much, there wasn't much of an option otherwise. That feeling made him feel so trapped, so helpless. Admittedly, it knocked his ego down a notch though he wouldn't dare admit such a thing. He had only just begun being social with his classmates back home, but now he was thrown into this whole ordeal with complete strangers. Forcing himself to be social with them was a difficult task for him to overcome, though he was doing his best. Besides, Zhongli made a good point; more allies wouldn't hurt. It was a concept Shoto struggled to accept, even in his hero studies. Being independent and having loner-ish tendencies had always been something he had done. He'd have to fight through that.
His attention was immediately drawn from his current companions when the sound of a branch snapping followed by a scream rang out across the camp. It was a quick scan of the area before his eyes settled upon the strange girl that was on the ground beneath a nearby tree. Clearly she had been trying to hide, but the tree had different plans, or so that was how it appeared to him. Nevertheless, Shoto found himself moving towards Sym with a gentle expression upon his usually stoic face.
"Are you alright?" he asked, crouching down in front of her. "You took quite the fall." It felt strange to him to come off as caring. Maybe Izuku had rubbed off too much on him. Either way, it didn't hurt to be nice, or in his case, attempt to be.
